QuickBooks Self-employed app. I work gig jobs. I'm now collecting the Cares Act Unemployment payments and having taxes taken out. How do I record this in QuickBooks?

Hi @gregisabel1,

 

You can exclude your unemployment payment so it won't add to the tax calculation. Let me walk you through how.

 

  1. Go to Transactions.
  2. Select the payment transaction. Then, click the Exclude icon.
  3. Hit Apply.

This process will prevent the system from being taxed twice and for record-keeping purposes. I'm attaching our page about the federal relief for gig workers and freelances. Here's the link:

I am a self employed Gig worker.  What catagory/account should  I record my CARES Unemployment benefits? Other income?

QuickBooks Self Employed (QBSE) consists of several categories that you can select to record your CARES Unemployment benefits. To do so, I suggest reaching an accountant to guide you in selecting the correct category for the transaction.
