We are using TSheets for our time keeping.  I download a report and our payroll is done by an outside company.  After I sync TSheets to QuickBooks, no payroll expense is being posted.  The TSheets people told me how to set it up.  The timesheets are showing up in QB but no expense is posted to the classes.  I must have missed something in the set up.  Each employee has a service item for their payrate.  They bill a customer for their time.  Each project is linked to a class.  I don't know what is missing. Can someone help me?

Hello there, @SueatRCD.

You’ll have to import the payroll data and assign classes from there. Since timesheet doesn’t post any expense or income. Unless it is being used by payroll or billed to invoices.

To do so, you'll want to download and install the.IIF import kit. Let me show you how:

  1. Download the kit.
  2. Select the Save button to download the IIF_Import_Kit.zip file to your Windows desktop.
  3. Use WinZip or any compatible file compression utility to extract the contents of the downloaded file. The contents will automatically extract into a subfolder called.IIF Import Kit.
  4. Open the IIF Import Kit folder to view its contents.

     5. After that, copy your data from the Excel file to the IIF file. Then, import it to QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu, select Utilities then Import then IIF Files.
  2. Select Import IIF.
  3. Locate the file, then select OKNote: We don't recommend the option Import it for me. I'll fix it later. Since this option bypasses data review, some of the info may not be correct or complete for your books. It also requires that you switch to a single user.
  4. Once the import is successful, you'll see the numbers of lists and transactions imported.
  5. Press Done.

You can transfer data to or from different platforms by using the IIF method. To know more about importing or exporting data using IIF, refer to this article: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1775251.

As you may have noticed, there are quite a few options available for importing data into QuickBooks Desktop. I recommend you check through them all before you decide which one you'd like to use.

What report do you download from TSheets?  Is the IIF tool easier or more effective that just using Excel?

Thanks for following up with the Community about this.

You won't have to download anything from TSheets to complete the process provided by MaryAnn_E. However, you'll need to get a copy our IIF Import Tool. Steps for downloading and using it can be found in my colleague's post.

Intuit's IIF tool can be very useful. For example, if it finds any errors while importing data, the number of items that imported/failed will be displayed. Additionally, it provides a new file for your failed transactions, along with details of each error.

More information about our IIF Import Tool can be found in the following resource: Improved IIF Import in QuickBooks 2019 and later

If there's any other questions, I'm just a post away. Enjoy the rest of your day!
