Cannot Invite employees to view paychecks and W-2’s online QuickBooks Workforce

I am having an issue inviting my employees to view their pay stubs on the new QuickBooks Workforce.  I have gone through all the necessary steps (QB Pro Desktop):

EMPLOYEES > MANAGE PAYROLL CLOUD SERVICES > INVITE EMPLOYEES > SIGN IN

Once I sign in, I get the error message saying ActiveX needs to be enabled on Internet Explorer.  I have enabled ActiveX on I.E. (the checkmark appears next to "ActiveX Filtering" in SETTINGS > SAFETY in I.E.), refreshed my browser, logged out of QB, logged back in, etc... I've done everything I can think of, and I cannot get past this ActiveX requirement.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi there, drchadluce.

Before anything else, let's update your QuickBooks to latest maintenance release. This makes sure that all of the succeeding troubleshooting steps are successful.

In addition, you also need to set Internet Explorer as your default browser to avoid I.E-related errors.

Once set, follow the steps in the To turn on ActiveX Filtering for all sites section in this support article from Microsoft: Use ActiveX controls for Internet Explorer 11 and Internet Explorer 10.

Then, go back to the Employee Center and check if sending the invite is already successful. I'm just around the corner if you need more help whenever running payroll in QuickBooks.

I am having the same problem.  I've followed all the directions that were given, and still nothing.  It won't pull up my employee list.  Why isn't there a link for new employees to sign up with like there was with the old version?  This is incredibly frustrated and makes us Payroll Admins look very stupid.

Thanks for trying the recommendations above, @BethatVIVO.

Most likely, you have an outdated payroll tax table which causes the inability to invite employees for Workforce. Downloading the latest payroll update helps ensure all dimension of the payroll feature will sync.

Here's how:

  1. On the top menu, choose Employees then select Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Hit the Download Entire Update radio-button and click Update.

  3. A window appears when the download is complete.

If you get the same results, I recommend contacting our Desktop Phone Support team. They can check your account using the remote access tool. It'll make the investigation easier and help fix this for you.

Keep me posted on the results by leaving a comment below, @BethatVIVO. I'll be here should you have any follow-up questions or concern.

I have the same problem - only I've gone through all the steps, fixing the Active X problem, updating quickbooks again and again, I even tried the help. Had someone from quickbooks help remote on my computer. After a couple hours, they escalated the ticket and a higher level expert tweaked more settings. The only thing i have not done before is make internet explorer my default browser (as mentioned on this board). So I did that, updated quick books, restarted my computer, signed back into quickbooks, and tried again. Same result. My employees can't see their paystubs. I may have to resort to emailing 80+ employees .pdfs of their paystubs just so they have the information. That is not convenient for them or me.

JenoP, thank you. I performed all of those steps, and I still get the ActiveX error message. I will simply need to contact customer support and have them log into my system, when I have the time.

Re: Cannot Invite employees to view paychecks and W-2’s online QuickBooks Workforce

@juVielL, Thank you for the official update from QuickBooks. However, I believe I can speak for all of us in saying that we feel QuickBooks should contact EACH OF US as soon as the fix is in place, instead of forcing clients (us) to repeatedly contact Customer Support asking for assistance for an issue that is not yet fixed. We are all very frustrated, because we all have new and previous employees who do not have online access to their paystubs, and we are all unaccustomed to PRINTING paystubs (at least in this day and age). We would appreciate being kept in the loop individually, and notified as soon as the fix is in place, so that we may all immediately activate online paystub retrieval for our employees. Thank you- Dr. Chad Luce

Re: Cannot Invite employees to view paychecks and W-2’s online QuickBooks Workforce

Rachiel Baclay was able to fix this for us.  Intuit continuing to use ActiveX "technology" is a severely flawed approach to this "new" platform.

Re: Cannot Invite employees to view paychecks and W-2’s online QuickBooks Workforce

I was wondering how Rachel was able to fix the problem for you?  I spent hours on a "chat" with remote help with no success.  Honestly, I never used the procedure of "inviting employees".  When a new employee got their first pay, I would send them an email with "ViewMyPaycheck" insturctions attached and the net amount of their paycheck.  The instuctions told them how to go to go to the website and there they had the option of either creating a new account or signing in with a former intuit account.  With the new website, there is no option for creating a new account.  I feel that an easy fix would be to allow employees to create new accounts like it was before.

Re: Cannot Invite employees to view paychecks and W-2’s online QuickBooks Workforce

I'm confused as to who Honey Lynn G Moderator is.  Does she work for Quickbooks or just active with this forum?

The reply that I received pertaining to my problem going through all the steps listed are ridiculous.  I've spend countless hours with level 1 and 2 support agents from Quickbooks payroll, only to finally tell me that they are aware of the issue and the exerts are working on it.  That was over a month ago.  I also have names of quickbooks agents telling me that they will contact me when a fix is made.  Never heard any follow  up.

WEll, getting very tired and frustrated with Quickbooks and maybe time to look for another provider.

Hi, @subway24378.

I appreciate you for voicing your experience. While waiting for the permanent resolution, the troubleshooting steps provided in this thread were workarounds that work with other customers.

Although, I can’t provide you with the specific time frame on when this will be fixed. Rest assured, as soon as updates are released it will be applied automatically into your account. Also, you'll be informed about it through an email. An update is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2019.

Let me know if you have other questions. The Community and I are always here to help.

I have the same issue.  This is a MAJOR problem and I've spent many hours on the phone with support only to be told that the engineers are working on it.  This is something that if it doesn't work, they should go back to the old version where the employees could register on their own.  It's been MONTHS since this problem started and still no commitment from Intuit.

I was able to fix my problem and I am now able to invite employees to Workforce!!! I do not know if this will be a fix for everyone, but I will share my story.  I went into Company/My Company/Manage your Account.  I got a message saying Intuit account not linked with QuickBooks Desktop. I put in my boss's credentials and he saw that I was not an authorized user. He invited me to be a user and I received an email and accepted it.  After that, I went into Manage Payroll Cloud Services/Made sure WorkForce status was On/Invite Employees and there they were.  I hope this helps someone else resolve their problem!
