Form 941 2019 will not view properly

When I create the first quarter 2019 Form 941 the form will not view properly so I cannot answer any of the interview questions or insert my information as preparer.  I use QB accountant desktop 2019 with enhanced payroll. This is driving me crazy!

Re: Form 941 2019 will not view properly

Hello there, mhcpa1040.

Thanks for letting us know about your issue with viewing the 941 Quarterly form.

Let's try updating your tax table to the latest version to refresh the payroll updates. This also provides the most current and accurate rates and calculations for supported state and federal tax tables.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Click Get Payroll Updates.
  3. Put a check in the Download Entire Update checkbox.
  4. Select Download Latest Update.

Once the download is complete, there'll be a message saying A new tax table and/or updates to your payroll tax forms have been installed on your computer then click OK.

To make sure you are guided with the whole process of updating the latest tax table version, you can refer to this article: Download the latest payroll tax table.

Once done, you can try pulling up the form again and see how it works. As a reference, you can check out this article: Prepare and print Form 941 in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know if you need further assistance while viewing . I'll be available to help you anytime.

Re: Form 941 2019 will not view properly

I have done this for each client as I just purchased the version of QB Wednesday and had to set up each client with the payroll subscription.  Just actually did this again and still will not work properly.  The form does not load fully, just bits.  No questions to read to answer.

Re: Form 941 2019 will not view properly

Hi @mhcpa1040,

You'll have to review first, your client's payroll summary. I'm here to help you accomplish this so you prepare your client's 941 forms.

To start with, payroll summary reports display all your payroll clients activities. Thus said, it helps QuickBooks generate your clients 941 forms.

Let me show you how you can view your client's payroll summary:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Select Employees and Payroll.
  3. Choose Payroll Summary.

Once completed and you have reviewed all the payroll details you need, you can go back and generate your clients 941 forms again.

Please let me know in the comment section below if you have any other questions. It'll be always my pleasure to help.

Re: Form 941 2019 will not view properly

I am a CPA with nearly 40 years of experience filing Form 941.  I have no issue with clicking on the File Forms tab and create forms, Form 941.  The issue is that the screen does not view properly.  Parts of it populate and other parts do not.  There are supposed to be interview questions there for me to answer and they are not showing on the screen.  There are places I can mark an X if I guess what the question (that is not present on the screen) is asking.  I can fill out the preparer information because I actually know which box is asking for my PTIN and EFIN etc.  But I should not have to guess what the box is asking for.

I just did not know if others are having same issue and know how to fix it.  Guess I will be calling support! Thanks for your help....

Re: Form 941 2019 will not view properly

Thanks for getting back to us, @mhcpa1040.

Allow me to step in and help perform some steps so you can view your 941 forms.

First off, let's try to run reboot.bat for a possible fix of this issue. Let me guide you how:

  1. Close your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Open the folder containing the reboot.bat file:
  • Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon on your desktop, then select Properties.
  • Choose Open file location.

               3. Right-click the reboot.bat file, then choose Run as Administrator.

               4. A Command (DOS) window (black window) will open with rapidly scrolling file names. Do not manually close this window. When the reboot.bat file utility has completed, the window will close.

               5. Check to see if this resolves the issue. If not, restart your computer.

Here's an article for your reference: Run Reboot.bat.

Then, if it's still not working, let's try to troubleshoot PDF to help us isolate this issue. To perform the troubleshooting, please follow the recommended solutions below:

First, install and run the Print & PDF Repair Tool. Here’s how:

  1. Download and run the QuickBooks Print and PDF Repair Tool.
  2. Once the tool completes, try the .pdf file-related task that originally generated the error.

Then, reset your temp folder permissions. Proceed with this step only if the first solution fails.

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the RUN command.
  2. Type %TEMP% and press Enter.
  3. Right-click an empty area of the temp folder, and choose Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Ensure all usernames and groups are showing on the Security tab have Full Control.
  6. Try saving as PDF again within QuickBooks once permissions have been set to Full Control.

Lastly, confirm you can print to your XPS (only for Save as PDF and Email issue). QuickBooks uses parts of the XPS Document Writer to save as PDF.

  1. Open Notepad and type something on it.
  2. Go to File, then select Print.
  3. Choose the XPS Document Writer and click Print.
  4. Select your Desktop in the save as dialogue box.
  5. Navigate to your desktop and see if you can view the XPS document you printed from notepad.

Once done, try to create the first quarter 2019 Form 941 to double check. If you continue to get the same result, please check out this article for additional troubleshooting steps: Troubleshoot PDF problems.

Please know you can always reach out to me for all of your QuickBooks concerns. I will be more than happy to help.
