How do I track both past and future hours for employee retention credit if employee hours are automatically synced using TSheets/Quickbooks Time?

How do I track hours for employee retention credit if employee hours are automatically synced using TSheets/Quickbooks Time? Do I need to delete the synced hours and re-enter them as Employee Retention Credit hours? I also already have several existing pay periods I need to change retroactively? How do I do that?

Hello @tkshouston! It's great to see you back in the Community. I'm happy to help you with your employee's hours in relation to Employee Retention Credit.

Whether the hours are synced from QuickBooks Time or manually entered in the Weekly Timesheet, you'll make those edits to those hours when you run payroll. What you'll do is change or add those pay types for the ERC credit manually when creating the paychecks. No need to erase and re-enter those hours, just change the pay type to reflect the correct kind of hours.

I'll attach an article to help you with that process: How to set up and track the Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to reply to this post. All of us here in the Community are eager to help!

How do I track both past and future hours for employee retention credit if employee hours are automatically synced using TSheets/Quickbooks Time?

Hi @K_Siman, thank you for your response. How can I change employee time retroactively from regular hours to employee retention credit hours? Specifically, I'd like to change about 10 shifts per week per employee for 15 employees for the past 10 weeks since January 1st. The article you sent focuses exclusively on tracking hours going forward, which I also needed to know.

Thanks for circling back @tkshouston.

For retroactive changes, you will need to edit those pay types. Here is a great guide: Change an employee paycheck: Edit paychecks

Hi @MonicaM3,

I'm trying to follow the steps in the article, but I'm not seeing the option to edit a past/completed direct-deposit paycheck - only print and void. Will you send more detailed info on how I can begin to edit a past paycheck in Quickbooks Online Payroll?

Let's perform some troubleshooting solutions to edit your paychecks, tkshouston.

There are times when a browser's cache data becomes full of frequently accessed websites or damaged. This prevents you from selecting the industry category in the downloaded transaction. To better isolate this issue, try signing in to your account using a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't use the existing cache data and helps us confirm browser-related issues. Here's how:

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Option + P

Then, try editing the approved direct deposit paycheck from your most recent payroll if it has already been processed again. Here's how:

  1. Tick Edit in a processed direct deposit paycheck. Then, a popup will confirm that the net pay will stay the same. Any changes necessary are done via payroll correction.
  2. You can change the same editable items as for an approved manual paycheck. The net pay will be locked to its original amount.
  3. Once you change an item, a payroll correction is automatically added. It will be resolved on the employee's next paycheck(s).

If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.

I'm struggling with Step 1:

  1. Tick Edit in a processed direct deposit paycheck. Then, a popup will confirm that the net pay will stay the same. Any changes necessary are done via payroll correction.

I'm wondering if I'm not looking at the right screen to begin with. From the Quickbooks Online Dashboard, I'm clicking Payroll->Employees->Paycheck List (screenshots below). From there, how do I get to the screen where I have the option to edit the paychecks?employees.PNGpaychecklist.PNG
