I track my mileage for business purposes. When I fill up my gas tank using the business debit card, is this considered a business expense or owner's draw?

My truck is used for personal and business purposes.

Hello there, @FabianS.

When you track your mileage to fill up your gas tank using a business debit card. It will depend on the trip that you will be doing in which will help your business grow or it is a personal trip and identify if it's for the business expense or owner's draw.

As always, you can check out this article how QuickBooks track and categorize your business or personal trip: Track mileage in QuickBooks Online.

Also, future reference you can read this article on how to handle a personal expense in a business account in QuickBooks: Pay for personal expenses from a business credit card or bank account.

What if I initially use the first half of the tank for personal and the second half for business?

I appreciate you getting back to us, @FabianS.

You can create an expense transaction and categorize the personal and business expenses by adding a line item. Let me guide you how.

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, click the Plus (+) icon.
  2. Click Expense.
  3. Select Payee.
  4. In the Category details section, select the appropriate account to categorize the transaction as personal in the first line.
  5. In the second line, select the mileage expense account to categorize it as a business.
  6. Enter a piece of information under the Description column to specify.
  7. Fill out the necessary information.
  8. Click Save and close.

However, I still suggest seeking help with your accountant. This way, they can offer you some advice on correct accounts to use.
