I want to keep paying my 941/944 weekly as we usually do and then at the end of the year take the National Paid Sick Leave tax credits. QB won't let me do this?

I paid our regular payroll tax costs last week electronically, but QB wants to put it with those credits. Can I break that up or something? It says resolve credit, but I don't want to do that now.

Let me provide some insights on how to file your 941/944 returns in QuickBooks Online (QBO), mlloyd1.

We stay compliant with the IRS' regulations when it comes to paying taxes and filings forms. Monthly and semi-weekly depositors are the main deposit schedules that apply to all federal taxes other than FUTA.

Aside from that, there are three main exceptions:

  • Next-day deposit rule
  • Quarterly exception
  • Annual exception.

Feel free to read through this article for more details: Payroll 101.

I recommend contacting the IRS to know your deposit schedule. Once verified, here how to set it up in QuickBooks:

  1. Click the Gear icon on the top right corner, then click Payroll Settings.
  2. Under Taxes, click Federal Taxes.
  3. Click Change or add new schedule.
  4. Select the new filing and deposit schedule, and select an effective date.
  5. Click OK.

Before you can electronically pay and file taxes in QuickBooks, you need to enroll in the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). You can also pay directly to them whenever you want. Then, manually record the tax payment in QuickBooks.

Stay in touch with me if you need anything else concerning payroll. I'm always right here to help ensure you're able to pay taxes.

I am asking why the National Paid Sick Leave tax credits are lumping with my normal 941/944 weekly payments?  It looks like this, but I want to make my regular payments and resolve all credits at the end of the quarter/year:

We’ll apply the overpaid amount to the next tax liability period: 01/01/2022-03/31/2022
For Liability Period

Thanks for coming back to the Community, mlloyd1.

I appreciate adding more details about the issue, especially for the screenshot. Based on the information shared, we’ll have to review your payroll to check why the National Paid Sick Leave tax credits are lumping with the 941/944 weekly payments.

The process requires us to collate sensitive information to pull up an account. For safety purposes, I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. They can perform in-depth troubleshooting steps in a secure space.

Once the cause is identified, our specialists will explain in detail what happened to the federal taxes. Then, assist in applying the permanent solution making sure the over payment is applied to the correct period.

  1. Click on the Help icon at the top to display the QB Assistant window.
  2. Press the Talk to a human menu and enter the issue/topic.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
  4. From there, pick Message an agent for real-time assistance or Get a callback.

You can bookmark these resources for future reference. From there, you’ll find instructions on how to handle payroll tax discrepancies.

Keep me posted if you have any other concerns or questions about QuickBooks. I’m only a few clicks away for help. Have a great rest of the day.
