I was recently divorced. How do I remove my ex-wife's company from my list of QBO companies?

Divorce must be so hard. Don't worry, I'm here to ease your QuickBooks concern by sharing the steps on how to remove your ex-wife's company from the list of your QBO companies.

 

To detach that company file on your list, you need to be removed as a user on your ex-wife's company file. This way, you'll no longer see the file under the Please select the company you want to open window.

 

Here's how to delete a user in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

  1. Open QuickBooks as an admin, then select Manage Users from the Gear icon
  2. Find the user you want to delete. Select the small arrow icon in the Action column.
  3. Select Delete, then select Delete again in the confirmation window.

I deleted myself as a user, long ago.  However, it still shows in my list of companies.

Let's check your user access by logging in to your wife's company. This way, we can review why your wife's company is still listed in your list of companies. You may still be listed as a different user, master admin or accountant.

 

If you're the master admin, transfer the rights your wife or her company's admin. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Manage Users.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Action column and select Make master admin.
  4. Click Make master admin on the pop-up that appears.
  5. An invitation email will then be sent to the user to accept the role.

If you are the accountant in your wife's company, here's how to remove your name in the list of users:

  1. Choose the Settings ⚙ menu and then select Manage Users.
  2. Choose the Accounting firms tab.
  3. Find your name.
  4. Click the small arrow dropdown ▼ in the Action column and then choose Delete.
  5. Select Delete to confirm.
