In December, I gave our employees their respected number of hours of vacation to be granted at the beginning of the year. Come Jan 1, no hours were granted. ??

I set up payroll in December, expecting that on Jan 1 each employee would be granted his/her hours. What did I do wrong?

Good to see you here, 9130349659890896.

There might be no hours entered in the Current balance field on the vacation setup. This is why no hours are granted when you run payroll. Let's go over to the employee setup and make sure that this field has the hours available.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to Payroll > Employees.
  2. Select the employee's name and click the pencil icon next to Pay.
  3. Under How much do you pay (Employee name), click the pencil icon next to the Additional pay types.
  4. In the Vacation Pay section, enter the number of hours in the Current Balance field.
  5. Hit Done.

Okay, I manually entered for each eligible employee.  My question is this: if I selected "use or lose" and that the accrual be automatically granted at the beginning of each year, should QB not have automatically applied that to each eligible employee on 1/1?  Will I need to log in each year and manually update this for eligible employees?  Or was it just this year since this is the first year we're using QB?

Thanks so much for your help!

You're correct with your thinking, @9130349659890896.

You'll only need to complete this set up once since you've just begun using QuickBooks. Any accrued vacation time will automatically calculate going forward. You can check out the article provided by my colleague above for additional information about vacation time.
