My employee has made a little over 13k in the last 4.5 months and only 36 dollars has come out for federal. She is head of house and claims 4k. Please advise

Seems like it should be more.

Welcome to the Community space, @David1218.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO) taxes are calculated based on the following factors:

  • Taxable wages
  • Number of allowances/dependents
  • Pay frequency
  • Filing status.

To ensure that the correct options upon entering the W-4 are selected. Let's review the employees' W-4 information entered in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) to ensure it's accurate.

Please refer to these steps:

  1. Click Workers from the left menu, then select Employees.
  2. Select the employee you want to review.
  3. In the Employee details section, click the pencil icon beside Pay to edit.
  4. In the Whatare Employee's withholdings? section, select the pencil icon.
  5. Go to the 2020 W-4 or later tab, then review the information from there. Make sure their calculated taxes and deduction are entered in the corresponding fields.

If the information is accurate but it should be more, I suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Care team. They can generate steps to adjust it for you.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Help menu.
  2. Click the Contact Us button located at the bottom.
  3. Enter your question and click Let's talk.
  4. Select Start messaging or Get a callback.

To learn more about the new changes of the federal W-4 as well as how to enter and print them, please see this link: What’s changing with the Federal W-4?

Please let me know if you need further assistance. I'll be around to help. Have a good one.

Everything is entered correctly in her file.   Is this correct math?

Everything is correct in her file.  I just need to know if this is correct math.  36.00 doesnt seem very much for 13k.

Hello there, @David1218.

Let me route you to the best available support to help you further review the accuracy of your employee's payroll calculation.

Before anything else, you'd want to generate the Payroll Summary by Employee report and the Payroll Tax and Wage Summary report.  It displays a comprehensive report of the total and taxable wages and deductions d by employee or period that are subject to federal and province/region/state withholding. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Scroll down to the Payroll section.
  3. Open each report one by one:
    • Payroll Summary by Employee report
    • Payroll Tax and Wage Summary report

Once generated, you can use the information and verifying the calculation using a payroll check calculator. You can visit this page: Calculate your paycheck in seconds.

If the payroll calculation does not match, I'd recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. A specialist can securely access your account and assist you in determining in reviewing your payroll information. Here's how to contact us:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top.

  2. Choose Contact Us.
  3. Enter your brief concern in the box.
  4. Press Let’s talk.
  5. Select Get a call.
  6. Enter your personal information.
  7. Click Confirm my call.

Just a heads up, due to COVID-19, we have limited staffing and have reduced our support hours to 6 AM-6 PM PT Monday-Friday. We will resume normal hours as soon as possible.

Keep me posted on how your call goes by leaving a comment below. I want to make sure you're concern is taken care of.

Thanks for coming back, David1218.

I've tried accessing the Calculate your paycheck in seconds page and it calculates the federal withholding. Let make sure we click the Download my paycheck button to provide you the paycheck information. If the same thing happens, access the link via an incognito window. The browser's cache may be full, and using a private browser can help us determine if this is the cause of the issue. Here's how:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

If it works, clear the cache of your main browser. This helps remove its stored cache so it'll improve the program's performance. However, if the payroll calculation does not match, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and help you with this one. You may send a message via chat, call us at a time convenient to you, or we’ll get in touch with you instead. To ensure we address your concern, our representatives are available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Saturdays, PST. See our support hours and types for more details about this one. Here's how to reach them:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the upper right.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern.
  4. Click Let’s talk.
  5. Choose Get a callback
  6. Type in your contact info.
  7. Select Confirm my call.

Feel free to visit our Payroll page for more insights about running your payroll on your business.

You can always reply to this post if you need anything else with running your payroll in QucikBooks. I'll be here to help. Take care always.

Hi there, @David1218.

Our developer team sets new steps on how to contact support through the QuickBooks Online account. If you need to get a callback from our live support, you can follow the steps provided by RCV above.

If you have the new Help menu or QB Assistant interface, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account, then go to the (?) Help icon.
  2. Choose the Talk to a human option (then type it again when prompted).
  3. When asked by the bot, enter a short description of your concern.
  4. Select I still need a human.
  5. Proceed with Contact us.
  6. Click Let’s talk then choose either Get a callback or Send a message.

I've added this screenshot for your visual guide.

For additional tips, while working with QuickBooks or payroll in the future, I suggest opening the topics from this link.

Let me know how this works out on your end and if you have any follow-up questions. I'm determined to help. Keep safe always!
