QuickBooks keeps freezing when selecting employees in the Employee Center,

Hi, brenda21.

We currently have an ongoing investigation when selecting employees' on the Employee Center. Our engineers are running some diagnostics to identify what's causing this unexpected hitch to provide a permanent and timely fix.

I recommend giving our QuickBooks Desktop Support a call to add your account to the list of affected users. Any progress will be communicated via email.

As a workaround, you can export the employee list via IIF and re-import it back into QuickBooks Desktop to stop the freezing. Below are the steps to complete the process:

  1. Sign in to your company file as an admin.
  2. Go to the File menu and select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  3. Go to the File menu and select Utilities then Export. Select Export IIF Files.
  4. From the Save in the drop-down, select the location you want to save the IIF. For example, your Windows desktop.
  5. Enter a name in the File name field and select Save.
  6. Select OK.

Take a look at this article to know more about what other lists that you can import: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

Please extend your patience while we're working for the permanent fix. Don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have other questions about QuickBooks. Have a good one.

QuickBooks keeps freezing when selecting employees in the Employee Center,

I'm having the same problem. It started happening today (Friday, April 17th, 2020). I worked in quickbooks (QB Premier Desktop 2019 Professional Services Edition) well past midnight last night, but when I started up quickbooks again, around noon today, the employee center kept freezing. Every time I switch to a new employee, it freezes for about 1 minute.

I even, uninstalled QB and reinstalled. I restored my company file from the version I saved using online backup at 4:00am CST this morning. Then I ran the Rebuild Data utility, and then the Verify Data utility. The Rebuild data utility did find a couple minor errors/isues, but even after running both utilities again, the freezing problem is still happening.

I had ZERO issues last night. So, whatever the QB devs pushed out today seems to have broken QB. A little googling, and it seems some QB users were having the same problem a few months ago. Maybe their version control people let an old bug slip into an update today. We need a hotfix quick, because this freezing is making my work impossible.

QuickBooks keeps freezing when selecting employees in the Employee Center,

I'm here to share details about this issue, Scott L1.

I understand that this error may cause difficulties in performing business tasks. As mentioned by RoseMarjorieA, this a known error and our developers are now fixing it. If you haven't yet, please reach out to our Customer Support Team so you can receive updates whenever this issue will be resolved.

  1. Go to the Help menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1 on your keyboard.
  2. Click on Contact us.

In the meantime, you'll want to perform the workaround provided above, exporting and reimporting the employee list via IIF. In addition, there's a report that this error is a result of invalid characters in the Notes section of the Employee record. If the workaround doesn't help, our Customer Support Team can check and remove those invalid characters.

I'd like to thank you for your patience while we are working to resolve this. You can reply again and tag me if you need more help.
