Join nowI'm in California & need to run a Sales report showing Taxable & Non-Taxable Sales in order to complete the CA Sales Tax Agency report. How do I get this info in QBO?
Hi there, @maryann-krisnati. I've got just the steps you'll need in getting your desired sales report.
You can run the Sales by Product/Service Detail or Sales by Customer Detail report and customize it to get the taxable & non-taxable sales.
Here's how:
You can continue customizing the report to get the specific details you need. Then, memorize it to save its current customization settings.

I was hoping there was a way to see Non-Taxable Sales & Taxable Sales ( not just the Tax amount) in one report. The report I need to complete for the Sales Tax agency in California requires both numbers. I ran our P&L to get total Sales & backed into the Non-Taxable Sales using the tax withheld amount. Seems there should be a report that shows both numbers. QB Desktop had the perfect Sales Liability report I could run from Vendors Payable.
Thanks for getting back to us here, @maryann-krisnati.
Since QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online are two different platforms, you'll want to use the Sales by Product/Service Detail or Sales by Customer Detail report as mentioned by my colleague @LieraMarie_A.
Alternatively, you can pull up two different reports (Sales Tax Liability report and Sales by Customer Detail report, and then export them to Excel. From there, you can sort and delete the rows and columns you need in one report.
Learn more about exporting in this guide: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

hi all,
I'm going to hijack this thread and ask my own question. I need to run a report that lists customers who do not have the taxable button selected. A lot of my co-workers refuse to understand how important it is for our accountant to have it selected, even if the customer is nontaxable. so far I am not seeing a way to pull up that client list so I can go in and update the accounts.
any help would be extremely appreciated.
Lynne
Thanks for posting your question in this thread, @LWaldman.
We can run the Customer Contact List report and customize its filter to know if a customer is taxable or not.
Here's how:

You also want to memorize this report to save its customization settings in QuickBooks.

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! Unfortunately, this isn't what I'm looking for. I need a list of accounts whose "This customer is taxable" is not checked. The report only allows for those that are.
Hey there again, @LWaldman.
Thanks for coming back and providing us with details on how those steps worked.
Since you're still unable to see the information you request on this report, there won't be another report or way to do this within QuickBooks Online.
However, you can always run the Customer Contact List report and filter it out. From there, you'll export it to Excel. Once the report is in Excel, you can take out the customers/details you don't need/want.
This should do the trick. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns about your QuickBooks account. Have a splendid Thursday!
