Hi there, rfields1.

Weekends are non-banking days. This means that if you approve payroll on these days, the direct deposit processing will start on the next banking day. For QuickBooks Online, we require you to run payrolls before 5:00 PM PT 2 days prior to the check date. You can run your payroll on Wednesday so that it will be posted on Friday.

Please check the payroll transmission due dates for additional reference.

If you have further questions about payroll, please let me know and I'll get back to help as soon as I can. Have a great day!

I understand we need to run the Payroll two days prior to the payroll date, but I'm not sure that you answered the original question.

When we create payroll "Schedules" in Quickbooks Online, the system tries to "calculate" the payroll dates based on the information entered in the form.  If we select that pay dates are the 15th and End of Month, then the system indicates those exact days and doesn't seem to take into account that typically pay should be delivered on the prior Friday.  There is no option in the Schedule window to indicate that the pay dates should always be on the Friday if the calculated date falls on a weekend or holiday.

Are you stating that when we run Payroll in QBO, the pay date automatically becomes two days after payroll is run regardless of the schedule?  Or does QBO delay payment until the "scheduled" date when would then push it until the following Monday?

For example, for the month of February 2020, the "end of month" is February 29 which is a Saturday.  Pay should be issued dated February 28, the prior Friday.  I understand this means I need to run payroll no later than the 26th, but depending on your answer I may have to manually adjust the schedule to back the pay date up to the 28th if there is no way to configure QBO to automatically handle a regular pay schedule.

If QBO is unable to correctly determine that a "scheduled" pay date falls on a weekend or Federal holiday and make appropriate adjustments, then that basically means the schedule function is useless for bimonthly payroll and we would have to manually adjust the pay dates every month to adjust for weekends and holidays.

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi there, Daniel.

Thanks for the detailed information you've provided. I'd be glad to share additional ideas about processing direct deposit in Quickbooks Online.

If you're using QuickBooks Online Full Service Payroll, you don't have to do anything on your end. If the pay date falls on a weekend it will automatically happen on a Friday since we do the process for you. However, if it's a do it your own payroll, you may refer to the information stated by my colleague above.

QuickBooks is unable to process payroll on weekends. You may need to process the direct deposit early on the last business day to make sure employees will be paid on Friday. Here are articles you can refer about Direct deposit:
