Searching time activity entries

Hi - I'm an IT consultant, and I enter my work time in the "time/enter single activity" dialog and I enter a lot of notes about what I did. I'd like to refer to them sometimes, is it possible to search those notes? I couldn't really find a way to do it. Any thoughts or pointers?

Thank you for the detailed information, @Anonymous.

As of now, you have the option to run a report that shows your timesheet data. From there, include the Notes column so you can view the notes added.

  1. From the Reports menu, select Jobs, Time & Mileage, then Time by Job Detail.
  2. On the report's page, click on the Customize Report button.
  3. Click Display, select the reports period you want to display and include the Notes column under Columns.
  4. Make the necessary customization or filters you want to add, then click OK.
  5. Find the notes under the Notes column.

You can also export the report to Excel so you can easily find the notes entered.

  1. On the report's page, select Create New Worksheet under Excel's drop-down arrow.
  2. Tap Create new worksheet, then select in new workbook.
  3. Hit Export.

To search for the notes in Excel, press Ctrl + F on your keyboard, type a keyword you want to view under the Find and Replace popup, then click Enter.

Hi bitboyenterprises,

You can open and customize the Time by Job Detail report to show the notes of the transactions. Let me guide you with the steps.

  1. Click Reports on the upper-menu.
  2. Select Jobs, Time & Mileage.
  3. Choose Time by Job Detail.
  4. Click Customize Report.
  5. Under the Display tab, select the date.
  6. In the columns field, type Notes to locate for it. Then, mark the option by checking it on the left side to show it on your report.
  7. Click OK.

I have included this article in case you want to create a batch timesheets: Create And Print Timesheets

This is not a solution to the problem I asked about. This is to search notes on customer or vendor records, not the time activity entries. I want to search the notes for time activities. Any ideas?

I guess this is the way to do it, it makes sense given the program's limitations, but there should be a full-text search in the program for everything I enter. Having to run a report to do this seems very silly.

F3 is supposed to work, but right now I'm having problems with it not allways being dependable

Ok after a little detective work, I find that F3 works fantastic to search for time entree notes. Just make sure there are NO punctuation included in the search at all. simply do not use any kind of punctuation in the search bar and it will work like a charm

I found a roundabout way to do what you are trying to do. I have the same problem. Funny a QB expert did not suggest it. I have QB Pro. If you click "Search" (the magnifying glass) for the word you want and select time activity, it will narrow the search to specific customers. Then you go to the Time by Job report and select that customer and the information you need. It helped me. I hope it helps you too. Michel

I have the same problem and this helped find what I was looking for. Click "Search", enter the word you are looking for & select time activity and it will narrow down the results. Then, in my case it shows all the customers where the word is used. I then go back to Time by Job Detail and look there. I works for me but not as good as searching the report like we are trying to do. Funny that the QB expert did not suggest that
