Social Security and Medicare Deductions

If my Medicare and SS payments were not correct on a prior check, does the payroll system intuit auto correct on the next pay period?   I didn't have my subscription updated yet for that week, so no deductions were taken.  My employees check this week was only $21.75, but the paycheck was for $7.19.    So I am wondering it if pulled last weeks deductions and put them on this week, for what was missed.

Thanks,

Lisa Phillips

Social Security and Medicare Deductions

Good day, treasuredpast,

Thanks for reaching out to us today. I can help you with your SS and MD deductions.

Yes. QuickBooks Desktop has an auto-calculation feature that carries over the underpaid taxes for the next payroll run to correct your employee's Year-to-date information. This feature, however, only applies to rate based taxes like Social Security, Medicare or unemployment taxes and does not include withholding taxes.

To make sure your taxes calculates correctly after updating your subscription, you'll need to run a payroll update to refresh your tax settings. Here's how to do that:

  1. Click the Employees menu and select Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Choose Download entire payroll update.
  3. Click the Update button.
  4. Click OK.

That should do it, treasuredpast. Please let me know if you have any more questions you need help with. I'm here to help you whenever you needed me. Have a good one!
