Social Security Tax Withheld

Going to print my W2's, and on one employee I am getting an error message saying Social Security tax paid is too low.  I've calculated it is indeed off by $114.75.  Is it better for me to figure out which quarter was off and amend that return then make deposit, or do I move forward with the W2 as it stands?

Social Security Tax Withheld

Hi there, jmv72200.

I'm here with some insight to provide regarding your question about the Social Security tax and W-2 form.

While I'm by no means an accounting professional, but I would highly recommend that you correct that now rather than doing it later. This way, you'll be sure to file it in a timely manner with the right details, instead of having to worry about filing a W-2C.

That said, It seems like you have a grasp on how to make the adjustments, but just in case let me include our detailed guide: Adjust payroll liabilities

As always, if you'll need further assistance with the adjustment, you can reach out to our Desktop Payroll Team. They have the resources to do screen-sharing in a secure environment and walk you through the step-by-step process.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Click the link to head to the Official Intuit Contact page.
  2. Select Basic, Standard & Enhanced.
  3. Click Payroll, then View Contact Info.

Keep in touch if there's anything else I can do for you, I want to make sure you're taken care of. Thanks for reaching out, wishing you and your business all the success.
