I am E-filing the W2/W3 forms for 2018 and I get an error stating that I don't have an amount in the employee's W2 line 4 (social security tax withheld) and line 6 (medicare tax withheld). The reason this is blank is due to the employee being exempt from these taxes.
How do I proceed to E-file while leaving these fields blank due to the employee status.
That doesn't work on my software. Client is a sole proprietor. Her children (under 18) work for her. We did not withhold social security and medicare. Now I get the error message saying it is under reported. How do I fix this.
I have the same issue. Sole Proprietor's children work for the business. No SS and Med withholding required. Payroll calculates properly. W-2 give me an error saying boxes 4 and 6 are less than the calculated amount. I put 0.00 in the boxes. I still get the error message. How do I fix this?
I appreciate the steps you've done to get this working. Allow me to step in for a moment and help fix the errors you're getting filing the W-2 form in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Just to clarify, do you have a number in boxes 3 and 5? If so, QuickBooks uses the internal calculator in the form to know how much the amount in boxes 4 and 6 should be by multiplying boxes 3 and 5 to their corresponding rates.
If that's the case, override or change the amount to 0.00 by right-clicking these boxes to zero out the boxes 4 and 6.
