I only have one employee. Do I need to purchase pre-printed W2's (minimum pack of 10 for $73!) or can I print from Quickbooks and use that for filing?

Hello there, cdhamer.
Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us. Allow me to help and provide some insights about pre-printed form for W-2.
You can use a pre-printed or different form as long as it is scannable and the online version of it. For more information about W-2 filing instructions, you can check this website: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw2.pdf.
Once you already have the scannable form, here's how you can print W-2 in QuickBooks Desktop:

No, you don't need to purchase forms. QB will print file-able W-2's on plain paper.
I don't know what question the Intuit post answers, but it does not appear to be and answer to the OP's question.
If all you have is 1 employee / 1 W2, I personally would use a service like efile4biz.com. That will cost you about 4.50 for the one W2 vs having to buy a pack of forms. They will mail out the employee copy and e-file the official copy. I use that myself for companies with only a few employees. It's effective, not overly priced and rids you of the trouble of ordering forms and envelopes, stamps, trips to the post office. Unless you have a lot of employees, I would just use the above site. If you do use the above site, do NOT e-file your W2 from QBO because the site above also e-files the official copy. Don't want that going in twice.
