We are a seasonal business for the winter and are being charged year round for payroll. It is super expensive to do this. Is there a way to put it on hold until winter?

I'd be happy to provide some information on managing your payroll subscription, Kari.

Currently, the option to pause a subscription for QuickBooks Online and its add-ons, such as QuickBooks Online Payroll, is unavailable. As an alternative, you can cancel your account and then reactivate it at a later time when necessary.

Before canceling your subscriptions, here are some things to take note of. First, if you have QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite, Intuit will charge you $150.00 if you request us to prepare year-end filings and/or W-2s. If you have a full-service payroll subscription, please ensure to leave your bank account open until QuickBooks has debited and paid those tax liabilities. You'll receive an email confirmation within 3 business days once we have reviewed your cancelation request and another when we have completed your cancelation.

Additionally, please note that after you cancel, you'll only have access to your payroll data until one year after the date your subscription was canceled. So, I recommend exporting and saving copies of your reports.

To cancel your payroll service, here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon at the top-right corner.
  2. Select Subscriptions and billing under Profile.
  3. Locate your payroll subscription. Then, click Cancel.
  4. Press Continue to cancel.

Once it's winter, you can refer to this article to guide you in renewing and resubscribing to your QuickBooks payroll subscription: Reactivate your QuickBooks Payroll subscription.

You may also want to manage your payment methods on file. Here's an article that tackles how to do it: Manage billing, payment, and subscription info in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to the Community for any other concerns about your subscription, Kari. We'll be right here to provide further assistance.

Hi! I am also a seasonal business and what I do is deactivate all my employees so I don't have any and then change my subscription to the lowest one just in case bills come in over the time that I am closed.

Hope this helps! I
