Join nowWe have an independent contractor who is Canadian and resides there. We have a W-8BEN for him, but it would seem there should be a form to report the amount we've paid him. Is there a place on our tax forms that amount gets recorded? All we have is our bank statements showing the outgoing wire transfers.
Glad to have you here on the Community page, @CarolC.
To inquire how you'll be able to report the amount for your foreign independent contractor, I suggest reaching out to your government. They'll be able to instruct you further about this and help you prepare a tax form for W-8BEN.

Thanks for the reply. I already have all that information. QuickBooks is just for the US, right? So my government is the USA. If it weren't, I'd be able to complete other forms than a 1099 and it would make life a lot easier. I just wanted to know where in our tax form do we enter the amount. The W-8 IRS instructions don't state that.
US QuickBooks will only produce a US 1099 for independent contractors. It will not even let us directly produce a 1098 for mortgage interest received or even create a 1099-INT for interest paid out. But there may be a possible workaround.
Compare the W-8 with the 1099 and see if any boxes on 1099 line up with the required box on W-8. You can direct the amount paid by box contractor by contractor or create one form for just one contractor at a time
Example I had to use. 1099-INT Box 1 for interest lines up quite nicely with 1099-MISC Box 2, Royalties so for my vendors that I paid interest to (private lending) I created a 1099-MISC with the payments applied to Box 2 and inserted the blank 1099-INT forms.
You may or may not be able to do this.
At the very least you should be able to run a report total of all money paid to the Canadian contractor and use a typewriter (they still exist, try local library if you do not have one) if necessary to fill it out
Thanks for the suggestion. I could try and work it into a 1099... the Canadian Tax ID has more digits than a SS number though. I'll take a look
