We need to cut a payroll check on a closed tax year.

You would have to open the tax year to enter any transaction with a check date within that timeframe then close again.

 

If you are talking about cutting a check today for work performed in the closed period just run payroll now. That is how it works as far as IRS is concerned. Pay date overrides when work was performed .
