What is the advantage of giving customers an account #? I had Quick Books for awhile now and never gave anyone a #, should I? Thanks

Before going into, I want to ask if you mean the account number from the payment settings in QuickBooks Desktop?

If so, below are the steps to find the customer's account number: 

1. Select Customers in the top menu. 
2. Choose Customer Center.
3. Locate and double-click on the customer.
4. Click on the Payment Settings tab.
