Advanced Payroll - Is this Wage Subsidy Calculation in Place? https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/economic-response-plan/covid19-businesses.html#wage_subsidies

Hello em14,

Thanks for touching base with us about the government's wage subsidy and how it's working with QuickBooks Online's Advanced Payroll service. At Intuit, we're playing close attention to how the COVID-19 pandemic is developing and the impact it's having on business owners. We know these can be difficult times and we want to do everything in our power to work with what's in place to make things easier for you.

Intuit's QuickBooks Payroll team is working closely with the Canadian Payroll Association on this matter. The CPA offers guidance and direction on interpreting government legislation for payroll and we've already reached out to the association to learn how to proceed. The CPA has informed us that they are working in conjunction with the CRA to navigate this situation and will be communicating back as soon as they have more details.

At this time, there are no changes to the QuickBooks Online Payroll systems, including Advanced Payroll, and it is business as usual. As soon as we have a plan of action and know more about how to proceed, we'll be sharing that with you and other users of our payroll system. It's important to us that you're kept up to date with these kinds of changes and I want to assure you that communications will be sent out once we have the details. These will likely be sent out via email, so keep an eye on your inbox for updates.

Feel free to ask more questions in the meantime. I want to make sure you have the information you need moving forward.

Take care!

I'm on Advanced Payroll (Wagepoint). This subsidy was just changed to 75 percent today, so if we've already submitted Payroll using the 10 percent subsidy, how do we claim the difference allowed?

I reached already out this morning regarding an adjustment because we just submitted payroll, and no one knew what to do - no help. So now I have an open case and waiting for answers.

Hi,

We are using Quickbook Advance Payroll and so far for March and April, we didn't receive any wage subsidy.   Any update on this? Should the Advance payroll calculate the 75%  wage subsidy and reduce it from the money they take from employer account (to pay the wages and government) or they are still taking the full amount and we have to apply it ourselves?  If the Advance payroll takes care of the calculation and the payment what is going to happen to past months (part of March and April) wage subsidy that we didn't receive. Does the AdvancePayroll refund those funds or use it for future months payroll payments?

Regards,

Hello Hossein,

I love that you're using QuickBooks Online Canada's Advanced Payroll option. It has many options for automated features that you can toggle, such as payroll tax remittances. Likewise, the option to have the subsidy calculate and apply to your remittances automatically for you is a toggle you can turn on in your books. I'll show you how it's done and help you navigate your situation moving forward.

Since you didn't see the subsidy on your prior months' remittances, it sounds to me like you may not have configured this option in your Advanced Payroll Settings. Don't worry, you can still toggle the feature now to have the program calculate and remit for the remaining months in the subsidy period. For the months you missed, manually making the calculations and using them later is an option.

I've got a QuickBooks Online article to help with turning on the toggle for the subsidy in your books and how it works. I'll also link you the CRA page about the subsidy, which explains how to make the calculations and what you can do if you didn't make them throughout the given period.

If you have further questions about the QuickBooks side of things or need a hand with the subsidy toggle, you can reach out to the Online Canada support using one of the following options.

Hi Laura

Thank you for your response.

I did turn on the option and received the 10% wage subsidy since March but the government then increase that to 75% and I didn't see the subsidy on April. When I talked to QB support they mentioned the law just passed on April 27 and they didn't have time to adjust.  So, I guess have to get some money (remaining 65% up to the limit the government define) for part of March and April back from QB since they got the full amount of payroll (excluding 10%). Am I right?

My question is if the Advance Payroll now ready for May to do 75% subsidy calculation and does it consider applying for the credit from the money they took on March and April for the May payment?

Thanks

Hossein

Thanks for the clarification, Hossein. I just reviewed your original question and I do see you mentioned the 75% subsidy. That's my mistake for missing that and I'll help you from here.

The 75% Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy is separate from the 10% wage subsidy, which is why the toggle I mentioned in my previous response hasn't accounted for additional funds like you're expecting. Unlike the 10% subsidy calculations, the 75% calculations are handled entirely outside of QuickBooks Online and its Payroll modules.

The 75% calculation is done directly through the CRA website and your business account after you apply. Once you've made the calculations and submitted through there, the CRA will refund up to 75% of the Federal Tax amount to employers after remittances are made. This means, you simply submit your remittances as normal using the Advanced Payroll system.

To get further clarification about how to apply, calculate, or submit this information to the CRA, I recommend reviewing the information on the CRA website's Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) page or getting in touch with CRA support. An accountant may also be a good resource for this sort of situation.

I hope that clears things up.
