Due to covid-19 when are 1st qtr payroll tax forms and taxes due Fed Form 941 NYS-45

Same time and place as usual. Your 1st quarter federal forms have a due date of April 30, 2020. That has not changed in the least. The only forms and full payments postponed until July 15 are any with an actual due at of April 15.  You can defer the employer share only of SS only (6.2%) but ONLY for wages paid from 3/12/20 onward and if you get a PPP or EIDL loan those deferrments come due immediately instead of being deferred until December

Hi there, jacobsdds. I understand there's a lot going on and with so much information circulating, things can get confusing. The Community will be here to help you find the answers to your questions.

With the recent changes put in place by the IRS, the first quarter is not due until July 15, 2020. As for Form 941, the IRS requires a filing for each quarter, the first being January through March. This specific form is generally due on the last day of the month following the end of the period. So, for example, the first quarter for Form 941 would need to be filed by April 30 for wages you paid during that period.

You can find further information about the due times for Form 941 here: Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return and Employer's Annual Federal Tax Return

Feel free to reach out to me here if you have any other questions. Enjoy the rest of your day!

But I'm getting an error on first qtr. Form 941 says I can't use 941 for first quarter taxes, only 2, 3rd, and 45h quarter.  So what do I use?

Thanks for joining the thread, @PatB1.

Allow me to provide some details about the error message you're receiving.

According to the IRS website, the first quarter due date for Form 941 is April 30th, 2020. This means you're getting that specific error message because the deadline to submit the form has passed. You can check out this article from the IRS website for more information: Employment Tax Due Dates.

I'm only a few clicks away should you have any other questions. Wishing you continued success now and in the future.

I'm having the same error message when trying to file 1st Qtr 941. How do we file for the 1st Qtr if we aren't allowed to use the current for in QB?

Welcome to the thread, @beyondbronzeboutique.

Since you can no longer electronically file the 941 tax form for the first quarter in QuickBooks Desktop because it's already due, you can file late returns by mailing it.

To know more about the list of dates when you can e-file payroll forms, check this resource: Things to learn about e-filing 941 tax form.

You can also print your payroll forms, so you have a copy. For steps on how to do it, go to the Print and save your forms section of this article: Print payroll forms in QBDT.

If you have follow up questions, let me know. You can always count on me. Take care.

I am trying to submit 941 for Q1. QB indicates that the previous form is unavailable and that I should submit it via paper. However, I cannot find a paper version that allows me to check Quarter 1 -- it is grayed out. Do I just print it and check the box anyway?

QBDE states that it only stores one version of the 941 and that the one I am using is for Q2, Q3 and Q4. In looking for the Q1 version to print and mail, I only can find the new version. Q1 is grayed out. Where can I find the old version? Do I print the current version and check Q1 anyway?

Hello there, @jumpingink.

Since the previous form is unavailable, we'll need to download the Q1 form from the IRS and fill it up manually. After, use the tax form worksheet in QuickBooks Desktop to get the 941 details for that quarter.
