I want to access the PPP Forgiveness Payroll Cost that Quickbooks explains in the PPP center, but it does not show up in my report center. How do I get access to this report?
I appreciate your efforts in trying to open the PPP Forgiveness Payroll Cost Report, amontford.
The above statement is already replaced by the PPP Cash Compensation and PPP Average Monthly Payroll Cost Reports. The previous will show the employee wage costs (including prorated costs) for their loan period entered. While the latter reflects certain cash compensation identified in your QuickBooks account based on the time period selected.
I’m here to guide you through the steps to build them. Before proceeding, download the latest QuickBooks release. This is to apply the fix and product updates.
To open the report:
If you're unable to see any of these statements, I recommend installing the QuickBooks updates regularly. Then, check the Reports menu for the availability of the new ones.
Here are links that cover all the details on how we extract the data for these reports.

You're most welcome, @amontford.
I'm glad to know that you're now able to access these reports in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Let me add some info to ensure you can handle them in your QBDT account.
I'd agree that having the option to enter the initial PPP loan amount can make the said reports more accurate. These reports show a simplified snapshot of the costs and compensations made to these funds.
While this isn't an option, I'd recommend visiting our Firm of the Future page to stay current with the latest news and product enhancements. Also, you can check out this handy article for other payroll info and recent updates: Latest payroll news and updates.
To keep a copy of these reports for future use, you can Export or Print them. To achieve this, you can click their respective icons at the top.
I'm always around to help if you have more questions about managing your payroll in QBDT. Just tag my name and I'll get back to you as quickly as I can. Take care and enjoy the rest of the day.
When I run this report I get a message that says "sorry we encountered problem. please call customer service" I called customer service and was on with them for 2 1/2 hours. He said that it is a QB problem that they are aware of. I continue to download updates and it still won't generate the report. Is there another way to generate the needed documents?
Thanks for joining us here, cccdd.

I have Premier NonProfit Quickbooks 2015 edition. I've run updates but the PPP reports are not present in the pull down menu. Are they only available for select versions of QuickBooks?
I appreciate you joining in this thread, KM36.
The Premier Non-Profit QuickBooks 2015 Edition is a discontinued and no longer supported version of QuickBooks, the reason why these reports are not on your choices from the drop-down menu.
Intuit discontinues live support and access to add-on business services of older desktop versions of QuickBooks to focus on supporting more current versions. The QuickBooks services that will stop working includes the following:
Your version will need to be upgraded to access the PPP reports and to keep QuickBooks running smoothly. We recommend upgrading every three years to avoid service interruption.
The following articles will give you more information about discontinuation products. Also, will this provide you steps on how to upgrade your QuickBooks as well as the lists of their new features:

Hi there, KM36.
Thank you for updating your QuickBooks. Since you're still unable to view the PPP reports after updating your QuickBooks. Let's do some troubleshooting steps to successfully view the report. We need to ensure that the data in the company file is clean and has no errors by running a Rebuild and Verify.
Once completed, let's restart your computer to ensure that all QuickBooks components are fixed. For more detailed information about verify rebuild feature, you can refer to this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.
If the same thing happens, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team. This way, we'll be able to pull up your account in a secure session then run a set of examinations to amend the underlying issue.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'll be here every step of the way. You can reach out to the Community at any time. We've got your back. Take care and have a great day!
Hi there, @TFNDS.
Getting the Payroll Costs Report for PPP Loan Forgiveness Report in QuickBooks Online Payroll is my priority. Sometimes full of cache can cause unexpected behavior. With this, I'd recommend doing primary troubleshooting steps.
To start, let's access your account via incognito. This browser won't save any cache or history. You can use these shortcut keys below:
From there, re-run the report to check if it's already functioning well. If that works, go back to your usual browser, and initiate clear the cache. Doing in other supported browsers is a great choice too.
If the issue persists and you received a system error, I'd advise contacting our payroll support. The said error has an open investigation. Our representative will add you to the list of affected users. Also, an email will broadcast once the issue is resolved.
4.Complete the needed information, then submit the request.
Furthermore, ensure to call our support with the business hours to guarantee we address your concern rapidly.
I've also added articles about the calculation of PPP and various reports available in QBO.
Let me know in the comment section if you have questions. I'm always here for you. Keep safe!
Thanks for updating the info. The Cash Compensation Report seems appropriate, but the PPP Average Monthly Payroll Cost specifically indicates it's for a PPP loan application. In addition, it does not permit the setting of date ranges, but defaults to several. Since I would need it for the period from the receipt of the loan and then to 24 months, this seems to not apply. Am I missing something?
Thanks for following the thread, @ddspaulding195.
I'm happy to provide you the steps for running the report and set the date range when using Intuit Online Payroll.
To do this:
You can check out additional details in Get the correct payroll report to help you apply for a loan under the Paycheck Protection Program under the Intuit Online Payroll section.

My Payroll Cost report is missing one employee that worked half of the year. I went in and make her active again and reran the report but she still doesn't show up on there. Do you have an explanation for this?
Thanks for becoming part of the Community, Kat M.
Your Total Payroll Cost report displays all costs associated with paying employees, including total pay, net pay, deductions, and taxes.
Since this employee isn't displayed on the document, I'd recommend checking your browser. It's possible this issue could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these records, but sometimes the data can cause problems with certain webpages. You can open a private window and try generating your report again.
Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:
If the worker shows up as they're supposed to, it's safe to say your browser's causing this issue. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.
In the event they're still not displaying, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care Team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
They can be reached while you're signed in.
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a lovely day!
Thanks for the clarification, @Kat M.
The troubleshooting steps shared by my peer above is to verify if the report with a missing employee is caused by the system or your browser.
Since your using QuickBooks Desktop, please make sure your company file is up to date. Updating the software, improve the performance, stability, and security of QuickBooks on your computer.
Once done, try to run the report again. If it does not work, let's try running the Verify/Rebuild Utility. This tool identifies and fixes data issues within the company file.
Before we begin with the troubleshooting, let's secure a backup of your company file. Then proceed to verifying and rebuilding your data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Has anyone come up with an alternate report for this? Because I no longer use quickbooks payroll (due to terrible customer service) the Payroll Cost Report won't work anymore
After one customer support getting me to update my brower & clear cache (which disconnected the chat help session) another agent told me that it is intentional, since I don't pay for the payroll service anymore I don't have access to the payroll reports. (even though I don't get a no access error, I get No Records for selected period). I don't really want to go through the process and cost of turning payroll back on just to run one report then turn it back off again, especially if that won't fix the problem. (I successful ran Payroll cost report for a differnent time period after payroll service was turned off).
Hi there, @TaxCatSC.
I hear you and realize the importance of being able to pull the Average Monthly Payroll Costs report to keep track of your PPP transactions.
However, the said report will be visible if you have an active payroll subscription. You may consider reactivating your payroll to view the report and get your work done.
There are different ways to reactivate your payroll subscription.
The first is from the Employees menu.
Another way is through a browser. You need to log in to your QuickBooks My Account. Under Products & Services select the Payroll Subscription tile and click on Resubscribe.
If you received an email about the cancellation, you can also click on the Resubscribe button in the email. You can refer to this article about renewing or reactivating your QuickBooks Desktop Payroll subscription.
Once subscribed, you can now see the report by following these steps:
For more details about pulling up the correct report for the Paycheck Protection Program, please see this link: Learn how to review and download your Average Monthly Payroll Costs report.
If there's anything else that you need, let me know. I'll make sure you're all set. Take care!
Note: After I wrote this I realized I somehow ended up in a Desktop forum, not Online forum, which contributed to mistaken answers. Sorry about that, this was Quickbooks Online/Payroll Online that is having a problem.
Reactiving payroll requires a phone call, can't be done online. "YYour service is on hold. Please go to Help > Search for: "Contact Us" > Click on "Contact Us" button at the bottom of Help panel to get in touch with a payroll specialist"
And given that I can see the report, it just returns zero values...plus that I successful ran that report (for a different date range, for 2nd round PPP application, I need 1st round PPP forgiveness now), on April 7, 2021...two full months after canceling the payroll service, means there is something other or in addition to not having active payroll service causing the problems.
Weirdly I was just able to run a Payroll Tax Report from the PPP reports menu, that had actual data in it, though the Costs report still has null value.
Also unless it has changed very recently, you gave incorrect information about how to find PPP reports - they can't be access through the Reports menu, they can only be accessed through the Payroll menu.
Thanks for clarifying about your QBO product and great job on sharing where to find the PPP reports, @TaxCatSC.
I understand that you've already canceled your QBO Payroll. However, you can still access your QBO account. To get the data of your Costs report, I recommend contacting our PPP Support directly. They'll be able to provide you the correct information you needed from last year's data.
You can use this link to connect them directly: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/prechats/offerings/Paycheck-Protection-Program/23465/view.
I'm also adding this link here to get answers to our commonly asked questions about PPP.
Please know that you're always welcome to swing by anytime if you still have questions or concerns about PPP loans. I'll be around for you. Take care and have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Are those reports available if I no longer have assisted payroll? I have been trying.through about 15 chats- to at least get my lender loan number (I got the loan through Intuit) Please don't say "go to the payroll center" I cant find that either.
Welcome to the Community, @Sooze.
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern about running a report. Let me share some insights about running a payroll report.
To run a payroll report, you would need to have a payroll service key in order to have the payroll center. However, if you don't have one, I'm happy to share with you about running a manual payroll.
To start, please ensure that your computer is offline or is not connected to the internet. Then, proceed with the following steps to set up your company preferences for payroll:
Once set, you're now ready to create the manual payroll.
If you happen to select the Set my company file to use manual calculations link and want to reinstate payroll tax calculations, you'll have to sign up for QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. Additionally, if your company file is hosted through a network, contact your hosting provider to help you turn on manual payroll. This is to copy your file locally, if needed, before doing manual payroll.
You may also check on how to activate QuickBooks Desktop Payroll for more information and to easily run payroll reports.
If you have follow-up questions on running payroll reports, don't hesitate to let me know. I'll be here to help you further.
I had to move my QB data to another PC using move QB to another computer via a usb drive, the old PC QB's had the PPP loan forgiveness reports. The new PC dose not have the PPP reports I also did a rebuild of the data, and verify data and restarted the PC, still no PPP reports?
