Manually tracking qualified OT in Quickbooks Enterprise

Hello,

I have a few people who have multiple pay rates and are paid a weighted average for OT.  How do I manually track this in Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise for Qualified OT reporting?

Thanks,

Clare

Hello there, Cafagan. You can create a new Qualified Overtime Tracking (QOT) payroll item and assign it to your specific employees.

Before creating a QOT payroll item, ensure you update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release to access the most current security updates and product improvements.

To create a QOT payroll item, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Lists, then Payroll Item List.
  2. Click Payroll Item and then New.
  3. Select Custom Setup, then click Next.
  4. Select Wage as the item type, then choose Hourly Wages and click on Overtime Pay.
  5. Name the item (e.g., Qualified Overtime Tracking) to distinguish it from regular overtime. Then choose the options to define a different overtime rate.
  6. Assign the expense account you use for payroll tracking.
  7. Once done, click Finish to save the item.

After creating the payroll item, assign it to employees eligible for Qualified Overtime Compensation.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Employees, then Employee Center.
  2. Double-click the employee’s name to edit their profile.
  3. Go to the Payroll Info tab.
  4. Add the new payroll item under the Earnings column.
  5. Once done, click OK to save the changes.

Since the payroll item has already been created and assigned to your specific employees, you can now run the payroll to pay them. Additionally, you can use payroll reports like Payroll Item Detail to track the QOT item.
