PPP loan forgiveness and third-party providers

PPP loan forgiveness - the banks require either Bank Statements, or Payroll reports from a "Third-Party Provider". My question is, QB's Desktop payroll that I use considered a "third-Party" provider.

providing bank statements doesn't seem correct, in that the bank only shows net amounts of checks. So Can I use my QB's desktop payroll reports as verification of payroll paid?

Good day to you, @maidbcap.

QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) payroll is an add-on service of your software. And yes, you can use your payroll report for the verification of your PPP loan forgiveness. Let me show you how to run the report in your QBDT software.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Report menu.
  2. Select Employees and Payroll.
  3. Click Payroll Summary.
  4. Adjust the date range if appropriately.
  5. Then select Create New Worksheet from the Excel drop-down menu to export the report to Excel. 1.JPG

You can also check these articles for more details about running your payroll reports and exporting it to excel:

Once done, you can submit the report for PPP loan verification. To learn more about the workflow in applying for PPP loan forgiveness, check out these links for reference:

You can always leave a reply if you have follow-up questions about your loan. I’ll be more than happy to assist you.

Let me guide you on how to submit your Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness, ctrconcretecontractor.

You can submit the PPP Loan Forgiveness Application to your lender or the lender servicing your PPP loan. If you received a PPP loan within QuickBooks Capital, visit the PPP Center.

As long as you used all of the loan proceeds for which you are requesting forgiveness, you may submit your forgiveness application before the end of your Loan Forgiveness Covered Period.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this site: Paycheck Protection Program.
  2. Click the Sign In drop-down to visit the PPP Center.
  3. Choose the QuickBooks program you're using.
  4. Sign using your login credentials.

Once you're able to sign in, you can get a loan forgiveness estimate, and access your loan agreement, payroll, and non-payroll reports.

Then, make sure to use all the loan proceeds for which you are requesting forgiveness. Once you submit your application for forgiveness, the lender will have 60 days to accept or deny your application.

For more details about this one, check out the Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness article.

Thank  you for this information. I printed out the report and submitted it to my bank. They responded with this:

It appears the document you provided is an internal payroll journal. We need the PDF report from QuickBooks documents the compensation to all employees during the covered period. The report must include QuickBooks name/logo.

Is there any way to prove to my bank that this is a report from QuickBooks? Is it possible to produce a report with the QB logo/name?

Hello there, dukelso.

There are various reports you'll need to collate in Excel and submit it as one to SBA. The payroll reports should be listed in order to avoid rejection when submitting it. For your reference, you can click here. I'd also recommend referring to the latest guidance from SBA and Treasury to confirm current program rules and how they apply to your particular situation.

I'm just here if you need more help. You take care always and have a great day!

Actually that wasn't my question at all. I've produced the correct reports that the bank wants to see. But they've said they want to see a Quickbooks logo and name on the report to prove that the information is from a third party payroll provider. Is there any way to do that?

Hello, @dukelso.

Currently, the ability to directly include the QuickBooks logo and name on the report is not available. You'd want to download the report and manually add it outside QuickBooks. I can guide you in exporting your reports.

  1. Open the report your bank requested.
  2. Click the Email drop-down.
  3. Select Create New Worksheet.
  4. Mark the Create new Worksheet option in a New workbook.
  5. Choose the Export button.

Once your report is downloaded, you can view and manually add the QuickBooks logo and name.

Get back to us here if you have other questions about customizing your payroll reports. I'm always here to help.

Unbelievable that banks/regulators would think a logo on a piece of paper meant anything..  with everyone's easy access to cut/paste and editing tools..  Is that called burying your head in the sand and checking the boxes..  Come on SBA, small businesses need help, not all this useless red tape!

It is also unbelievable that QB didn't come out with a simple "official" report that could be ran that would meet the requirements instead of requiring users to do the excel export routine to get what is needed.

Enterprise Solutions has 2 PPP reports on the payroll menu.  When I try to run, both run awhile, then abort with no explaination.   Maybe report can't handle more than a dozen employees or something.  Very disappointing.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to resolve this, Charlie325

The issue that you've encountered while running the reports is an indication of a potential data integrity issue. Usually, this can be caused by internal (within QuickBooks) or external (file location) factors. I recommend running the Verify and Rebild tool to fix this. This tool helps resolve minor and common data issues in QuickBooks.

Here's how to verify your data:

  1. Choose Window and then click Close All.
  2. From your desktop file, choose File and then Utilities
  3. Select Verify Data.

Please take note of the following to determine the further actions needed:

  • "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," no further action is needed.
  • A specific error message, there may already be an article for it. Try searching for it in our QuickBooks Desktop support site for specific instructions.
  • "Your data has lost integrity," indicates there is data damage in the file.  Continue to the steps below to Rebuild Data to correct the problem.

Here are the steps in rebuilding your company file:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities and then Rebuild Data.
  3. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK. A backup of your company file will ensure you have a secured copy of your company file before any changes are made to it.
  4. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup is finished.
  5. Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you personalize the PPP reports you'd like to generate. Doing so helps you filter the important details you want to add: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm always here to help if you have other concerns with QuickBooks Desktop. Feel free to reply here and I'll respond as soon as possible.

I am having the same issue. Application was sent back to us for the same reason. Can you please let me know if adding the logo worked or if you were able to get anything else to work. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for joining this discussion, @reneemorris3945,

If your application got returned, you can still continue working with your lender to provide missing documentation if that was the reason. You can also begin a second application with another lender.

Also, as discussed on this thread, adding the logo is currently unavailable within the program. You will need to do it outside the program, so you can add it to the document.

This thread will remain open for any additional questions about the topic. You can also refer to the following links about PPP:

Intuit/Quickbooks needs to do something about this.  Can't you issues users a letter confirming that you are providing them with Payroll Services?  I received a similar note from our bank regarding the reports we submitted:

Payroll (Cash Compensation) Documentation:

- The payroll report provided does not appear to be from a third-party payroll service provider (i.e. a service provider that administers your payroll, withholds taxes on your behalf, and prepares filings on your behalf). The SBA requires one of the following documents to substantiate the amount of cash compensation paid to employees: bank account statements or third-party payroll service provider reports. If the report provided is in fact a third-party payroll service provider report, please upload a cover letter explanation attesting to the relationship between the two parties. If the report provided is from a third-party accountant/preparer, please provide a cover letter, specifically from your preparer, that attests to the relationship between the two parties. If you prepared the document in-house, please also provide bank account statements that clearly identify cash compensation paid to employees, as well as applicable IRS and state taxes paid in order to reconcile gross pay claimed.

The request you've asked about sending you a letter to attest that you're using the QuickBooks Payroll service may be possible. If not, you'll always get other documentation for this. Here's how to contact them:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop company.
  2. Go to Help and press F1.
  3. Scroll down a bit, then click the Contact us button, and enter your concern.
  4. Click Let's talk.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps.

Also, you may consider checking out the support hours to know the best time to call at your convenience.

We are running into the same problem. We hit printer friendly version, and then customized margins. After that, the ability to do headers and footers popped up and the url is now on the footer. Hopefully, the lender will accept this.
