Connect or Disconnect Mailchimp for WooCommerce

Mailchimp for WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin that adds your WooCommerce customers and their order information to your Mailchimp audience. Use WooCommerce data to track sales, create targeted e-commerce automations, make personalized product recommendations, send abandoned cart emails, and more.
In this article, you'll learn how to connect, update, and disconnect Mailchimp for WooCommerce.
Before you start
Here are some things to know before you begin this process.
- This integration requires you to have the WooCommerce plugin installed and activated in WordPress.
- Your host environment must meet WooCommerce's minimum requirements, including SOAP Client Support.

- This integration works with version 3.0 of our Marketing API.
- If you decide to use our Order Notifications automation, make sure to turn off notification emails in WooCommerce. This helps to avoid sending duplicate emails to your customers.
- Order Notifications require Mailchimp for WooCommerce 1.0.9 or later.
- Pop-up forms and product retargeting emails require Mailchimp for WooCommerce 2.1.10 or later.

You'll need to do a few things to connect your WooCommerce store to Mailchimp.
- Install the Mailchimp for WooCommerce plugin on your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- Connect Mailchimp for WooCommerce to your Mailchimp account and configure your settings to complete the data sync process.
Install Mailchimp for WooCommerce
Before you install Mailchimp for WooCommerce, make sure you've already installed and activated the WooCommerce plugin for WordPress.
To install Mailchimp for WooCommerce, follow these steps.
- Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- In the navigation panel, click Plugins, then choose Add New.
- Enter Mailchimp into the search bar to find Mailchimp for WooCommerce, then click Install Now.
- Once the installation is finished, click Activate.
Connect and set up Mailchimp for WooCommerce
Nice work! Now that you've installed and activated Mailchimp for WooCommerce, you're ready to complete the second half of the setup process.
To connect your WooCommerce store to a Mailchimp audience, and configure your settings, follow these steps.
- In your Wordpress Admin Dashboard, click Installed Plugins If you don’t see the Connect accounts page, click Settings in the Mailchimp for WooCommerce listing.
- Click Connect Account.
- On the Log in and authorize page, enter your Mailchimp credentials, then click Log In.
- Review the connection details and click Allow.
- Once your accounts are connected, you’ll create your sync settings. To start, click the Linked audience drop-down to select the Mailchimp audience you want to sync your WooCommerce customers to.
- Next, you’ll customize your sync with Import customers. First you’ll choose what customers to import as contacts in the intial sync. Learn more about the different types of contacts.
- Sync as subscribed - Imports all of your WooCommerce customers to your selected Malichimp audience as subscribed contacts.
- Sync as non-subscribed - Imports all of your WooCommerce customers to your selected Mailchimp audience as non-subscribed contacts.
- Sync existing contacts only - Imports only the WooCommerce customers who are currently contacts in your selected Mailchimp audience.
- The next option applies to ongoing syncs. Select the checkbox if you want to sync customers who haven’t opted in to receiving your marketing e-mails. You’ll need this if you plan on sending abandoned-cart messages.
- Finally, enter any Tags you want to apply to contacts that are synced from WooCommerce. You can enter any text you like here, but remember that all customers synced from your WooCommerce store will have that tag applied to their contact information in your Mailchimp audience.
- When you’re satisfied with your settings, click Sync now.
That’s it! We’ll start syncing your WooCommerce customers to your Mailchimp audience. The time it takes to complete the sync varies according to how many customers you have. We’ll update your sync stats in real time and send you an email when the sync is complete.
If you have issues with your connection, you can resync your audience without losing any e-commerce data. To resync your audience, click the Resync Now button.
Customers that are archived in your Mailchimp audience will have the same status in WooCommerce. The only way for an archived customer to resubscribe to your audience is if you unarchive them in Mailchimp.
Manage Mailchimp for WooCommerce
Once you've connected your Mailchimp and WooCommerce accounts, you can view the integration details, manage settings, and take advantage of Mailchimp's e-commerce features to grow your audience and connect more deeply with your customers.
To manage Mailchimp for WooCommerce, follow these steps.
- Click Integrations, and then choose Manage.
- Click WooCommerce.
- On the Manage WooCommerce page, you'll find your integration stats, our recommended next steps for your account, and your Mailchimp and WooCommerce account settings.
- Scroll to our recommended next actions and click to learn more about what you can do with Mailchimp. Options can include setting up automated workflows and creating audience segments to more precisely target email campaigns.
- Scroll to Integration settings to verify or change your linked audience, create or manage pop-up forms, or manage your double opt-in settings.
- Scroll to WooCommerce settings to manage various settings in your WooCommerce account.
If you have problems with your store connection, you may want to deactivate and delete Mailchimp for WooCommerce, then re-install it. To re-install the plugin, use the Plugins tab on the WooCommerce dashboard. After you re-install, your e-commerce store data will be added back to your Mailchimp account.

Update Mailchimp for WooCommerce
For the latest features and best performance, use the most recent version of Mailchimp for WooCommerce.
To update Mailchimp for WooCommerce, follow these steps.
- Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- In the navigation panel, click Plugins, then click Installed Plugins.
- Find the Mailchimp for WooCommerce plugin.
- If you see a new update notification, click update now.
If you don't see a notification, click Check for updates, then click update now.
Great job! You’re now using the latest version of Mailchimp for WooCommerce.
Disconnect Mailchimp for WooCommerce
To disconnect your accounts, you'll need to disconnect your WooCommerce site from Mailchimp and then deactivate and delete Mailchimp for WooCommerce.
Disconnect WooCommerce in Mailchimp
First, you’ll need to disconnect your WooCommerce site from your Mailchimp account.
You’ll have the option to keep or delete WooCommerce data from your Mailchimp account while you’re disconnecting the integration.
To disconnect WooCommerce, follow these steps.
- In your Mailchimp account, click Integrations, and then click Manage.
- On the Manage Integrations page, click WooCommerce.
- Click Manage app, and then choose Disconnect site.
- In the pop-up modal, chose whether to keep or delete your WooCommerce data, and then click Disconnect.
Deactivate and delete Mailchimp for WooCommerce
Once you’ve disconnected your WooCommerce account from Mailchimp, you’ll remove your Mailchimp account from WooCommerce.
To deactivate and delete Mailchimp for WooCommerce, follow these steps.
- Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- In the navigation panel, click Plugins, then click Installed Plugins.
- Find the Mailchimp for WooCommerce plugin, then click Deactivate.
- Click Delete.
- In the confirm delete pop-up modal, click OK.
