Create a Sample Email for Potential Subscribed Contacts

by Intuit Updated 2 months ago

Your customers may want to know what your emails will be like before they sign up to receive them. Create a sample email to send to yourself, and use the link on your website or hosted signup form to show people exactly what to expect.

In this article, you'll learn how to create a sample email to share with people.

Before you start

Here are some things to know before you begin this process.

Create a sample email

If you've already been sending emails, you can share the email link for your sample email.

We suggest using the email type you'll use for future sends, so people get an accurate sense of what they'll receive from you.

In this example, we'll create a regular email.

  1. Click the Create button.
  2. Click the Email drop-down, then click Regular.
  3. Enter a name and click Begin.

This will take you to the email checklist, where you’ll choose your settings and design your content.
  4. In the To section, click Add Recipients.
  5. In the Audience drop-down, choose the audience you want to work with. Make sure your email address has been added as a subscribed contact to the audience.
  6. In the Send to drop-down, choose + New segment.
  7. Click Add filter, then click Email Address.
  8. Set the filters to Email Address | is | your email address.
  9. Click Review segment.
  10. Click Apply segment.
  11. Click Save.
  12. In the From section, click Add From.
  13. Enter your From Name and Email Address.
You may be asked to verify the domain in your email address.
  14. Click Save.
  15. In the Subject section, click Add Subject.
  16. In the Subject field, enter a subject line for your email.
  17. In the Preview text field, enter up to 150 characters that will display next to your subject line in recipients’ inboxes. This field is optional.
  18. Click Save.
  19. In the Content section, click Design Email.
  20. Choose your template.
  21. On the design step, add your sample content.
  22. Click Continue.
  23. In the Share Your Email section, review your email link and make sure that Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) sharing is disabled.

Send an email to yourself

After you’ve completed the To, From, Subject, and Content sections of the email builder, you should see a checkmark next to each. That means you're ready to send your sample newsletter to yourself.

To send your sample email, follow these steps.

  1. Click Add Send Time.
  2. Click Send Now, then click Save.
  3. Click Send.
  4. In the Ready to send? popup modal, click Send now.

Your sample email is on its way!

Share the email link

After the email has been sent successfully, you can share the email link on your website, your signup form, or any time you send emails from your regular email client to invite people to subscribe. You can also share a sent email on social media with the Social Share feature.
