International Characters in Mailchimp
by Intuit• Updated 4 weeks ago
Websites and email clients use certain character sets to interpret international symbols, like ñ and é. Mailchimp supports 3 character sets in emails and audiences: Unicode (UTF-8), ASCII, and extended ASCII.
Mailchimp relies largely on UTF-8. We don’t recommend using non-ASCII characters that aren't UTF-8 encoded, because this could cause errors in your email layout.
We encourage you to research how to use character encoding with your preferred word processor or spreadsheet applications. When your documents are set to UTF-8, Mailchimp will correctly render your inserted or uploaded content.
Mailchimp can’t process UTF-8 characters in the prefix of your contacts’ email addresses, but it’s okay to use UTF-8 characters in the domain name. For example, we'll block direcciónelectrónica@domain.com because the international characters are in the prefix, but we'll allow an address like test@ñoñó1234.com, because the characters are in the domain name.
