Troubleshoot Bank of America account connections
by Intuit•2• Updated 1 week ago
Bank of America has updated its connection security, which may require you to migrate your connection or re-enter your credentials to keep your transactions flowing into QuickBooks Online. These security updates change how different account types—such as personal and business accounts—are linked.
Important: If your connection breaks, transactions will stop importing into QuickBooks Online, which can affect your accounting and your eligibility for features like pre-qualified loan offers.
Why you might see missing accounts
Because of the updated security, you can no longer connect different types of accounts using a single sign-in credential. Bank of America now treats personal and business accounts as separate types that may require individual sign-in steps.
This applies to Bank of America personal, business, Merrill, and Benefits Online accounts.
Update and restore your connection
Follow these steps to migrate your connection and ensure all your Bank of America accounts are active in QuickBooks Online.
- Go to Bank transactions.
- If you see a message to update or reconnect your Bank of America account, select the link and complete the on-screen process.
- For any accounts that did not reconnect during that process, select Link account on the Bank transactions page.
- Select Bank of America, then enter the specific account credentials for the account type you still need to connect.
- If you need help finding these credentials, contact Bank of America directly.
- When prompted, select the same account in your chart of accounts that you have previously used for this bank. It typically has the same name.
Additional troubleshooting solution
If you still can’t find the specific Bank of America account you need, confirm the account you're connecting.
Some businesses use multiple cards with different numbers that ladder up to one top-level account. You can no longer connect these individual sub-accounts; you must connect the top-level account instead.
