Solution 2: Delete customers without transactions in QuickBooks for Windows
You can delete customers which don’t have any transactions if you reached the limit. This saves up space and gives way to other customers.
To delete customers:
- On your keyboard, press F2 or Ctrl+1.
- On the Product Information window, go to the “List Information” section.
- Confirm that your Customers count is over the 14,500 limit.
- Go to the Customers menu, then select Customer Center.
- Right-click on the customer you want to delete, then select Delete Customer:Job.
Note: You can’t delete a customer with subitems. Make sure to delete or move the subitems first. - Repeat steps 4 and 5 for other customers.
- Retry to run a financial exchange.
- If you still can’t run an exchange, your customer list might be damaged. To fix it, proceed to solution 3.
I don’t want to delete customers. If you need additional entries but don’t want to delete some, consider upgrading to QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. You can add up to one million names and up to one million items in this version. For more information on what else you can do with Enterprise, check out this quick overview. |
Solution 3: Re-sort the customer list
- Go to the Customers menu, then select Customer Center.
- Go to the View menu, then select Re-sort list.
- Select OK.
- Retry to run a financial exchange.
