From the email builder
There are a couple options for sending to tagged contacts from the email builder.
One tag
Choose any tag in your audience directly from the email builder. After you select your audience, click the Recipients drop-down to choose from your saved tags. The drop-down may vary slightly depending on the type of campaign you’re creating.
After you’ve chosen your recipients, click the recipient count to view the contacts included.
Multiple tags
To create a segment from the email builder to target tags in your audience, follow these steps.
- Navigate to the To section of the Campaign Builder.
- Click the Audience drop-down and choose the audience you want to work with.
- Click the Send to drop-down and choose New segment.
- Choose your first segmentation condition. Select your tag, then click Add filter. After selecting your next condition, click Or to set the logic for your segment. Or will return contacts that have one of the tags you specify, while And will return contacts that have all of the tags you specify.
- Optional: Use the Do not send to (optional) drop-down to select a segment or tag to exclude from your campaign send. Any subscribed contact who’s a member of the segment or tag you select won't receive your campaign.
- When you’re done, click Save and continue through the Campaign Builder.
Nice work! Use these steps any time you want to target multiple tags from the email checklist.
With a saved segment
Target contacts by creating reusable, saved segments based on tag data. For example, you might want to target contacts from more than one tag, or combine tag data with other information you have about your contacts.
To do this, create a segment with the conditions set to the tag or tags you want to target, and any other segment operators you want to use. Save your segment to reuse it as many times as you need.
With a customer journey
Use a [Customer Journey|/help/about-customer-journeys/] to send an email when you add a specific tag to a contact. The message can be anything you want to communicate to the tagged contacts, like a special offer or a follow-up after an event.
To send an automated email to your tagged contacts, follow these steps.
- Click the Automations icon, then click Pre-built journeys.
- Choose Email tagged customers.
- Click Use this journey.
- In the Set up an audience pop-up modal, click the drop-down to choose your audience and click Continue.
In the Customer Journey Builder, edit the [starting point|https://mailchimp.com/help/all-the-starting-points/] settings to choose the tag you want, then schedule and design your journey.
Contacts that were tagged before you turn on your Customer Journey won't receive these emails.
