See what's new with QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium and Elite

SOLVEDby QuickBooksQuickBooks Online Payroll381Updated January 13, 2022

Learn about what’s new and different when you move to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite.

Now that you’ve moved to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite, you may have questions about what’s changed.

This article will help you learn how to use the new features such as Employee self-setup, Auto Payroll, and managing your tax payments and forms.  We’ll also help you navigate some common payroll tasks. Check out the new insurance, retirement and HR benefits too.

Many of the articles we refer you to have instructions for the products you moved from. Make sure to select QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium or Elite as your payroll product. Or if you see QuickBooks Online Payroll (all versions), select this one.

Invite your new employees to add their own info

You’ll save yourself some time when it comes to adding new employees in QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite. Invite your new employees to add their own personal, W-4, and direct deposit bank info. Or you can fill in all the employee info yourself.

You can also set up your contractors and make sure they’ll get a 1099 at the end of the year.

Set up new work locations

If you have multiple work locations, you can set these up through your employee profiles.

Invite your employees and contractors to track their hours in QuickBooks Time

Tired of tracking your employees hours on handwritten time cards, or spreadsheets? Have your employees and contractors track their own hours in QuickBooks Time with QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium and Elite. Then the time will automatically flow into your paychecks.

If you have overtime, paid time off, sick, or vacation set up in your QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium or Elite, that info will flow to QuickBooks time.

Pay your employees automatically

Imagine not lifting a finger to create employee paychecks and send us your payroll. It’s possible with Auto Payroll, even for some hourly employees in QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite.

Once your Auto Payroll is set up, you can pause or make changes to it when you need.

Or you can create and send employee paychecks the ‘old-fashioned’ way, and pay your contractors with direct deposit.

Manage your direct deposit funding time

With QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite, you may be on same-day, next-day or a 5-day direct deposit funding time. Funding time is the time it takes from when you send your payroll to when your employees get the money in their bank accounts. You have some flexibility to view and change your funding time

Print your paychecks

Your employees automatically have access to view their own pay stubs in QuickBooks Workforce as long as you enter their email address in their employee profile. You can always print paychecks or pay stubs if you need.

Payroll corrections

If you just sent us your payroll and find a mistake, you may be able to delete or void one or more paychecks

You’ll need to contact us to make other corrections to your payroll so that we can ensure your payroll tax forms and payments are accurate.

Change your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate

If your SUI rate changes, you can make the changes yourself if the new rate is effective in the current quarter.

Set up payroll taxes for a new state

If you hire an employee who lives or works in a new state, you can set up the new state taxes yourself.

We pay your taxes and file your forms automatically

We’ll pay most of your payroll tax payments and file most of your quarterly and annual tax forms for you with QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite payroll plans. This is set as the default option, so if you’re happy with us doing it for you, you don’t need to change anything.

Tell us when to make your tax payments

You can manage the timing of when we make your tax payments and have more control of your cash flow. We can make your payments sooner than the due date, or on the due date.

I want to pay and file on my own, or have my accountant do that

No problem! If you want more flexibility, choose the option to pay your taxes and file your forms electronically or manually yourself.

See, pay your taxes, and file your forms in the new payroll tax center

We’ve made it easier for you to see your tax payments and forms in the new payroll tax center.

If we pay and file for you, you can quickly see what’s been paid and filed for you, what’s due, and the status.

If you opted to manage payments and filings yourself you can make your payments and file your forms in the new payroll tax center. See what’s due and what you’ve already paid and filed.
