Accounting for e-commerce is a feature for QuickBooks Online that you can use for your sales channels. It syncs your sales orders for viewing and downloads your payouts. After you connect your sales channel, it won’t affect your products and inventory in both QuickBooks Online and your sales channel.

Yes, you can switch but you'll need to disconnect your sales channels and then cancel your QuickBooks Commerce subscription. Then, when you select Commerce, you’ll see the option to connect sales channels with e-commerce accounting.

Payouts are the payments sent from your sales channel for your completed orders. The total amount of each payout will include the sales amount, discounts, refunds, expenses, and adjustments for the orders in the payout period.

Currently, the only sales channels supported are Amazon, eBay, and Shopify. Here’s how you can connect these sales channels.

If you have QuickBooks Online Simple Start or QuickBooks Online Essentials, with a few connections, you can disconnect them to connect your other sales channels.

  1. Go to Banking or Transactions.
  2. Select the App Transactions tab.
  3. Select the App settings dropdown menu, then select the sales channel you want to manage the settings for.
  4. On the General tab, select Disconnect sales channel.
  5. Select the reason you’re disconnecting, then select Disconnect.

Each sales channel has a time frame you can bring in data. You can set a close the books date in QuickBooks Online to prevent changes made before a specified date. If you set this closing date, then you can’t download historical data before the closing date. Here are the historical data limits by sales channels:

  • Shopify - 12 months
  • eBay - 90 days
  • Amazon - 90 days

You can change the deposit account, payment account, and customer settings for your sales channels from the App Settings. Here you’ll also find advanced settings, and where you can disconnect the sales channel.

  1. Go to Banking or Transactions.
  2. Select the App Transactions tab.
  3. Select the App settings dropdown menu, then select the sales channel you want to manage the settings for.
  4. Select the tab for the settings you want to change.
    • The General tab can change the deposit account or the payment account.
    • The Items tab can change the default payout line items.
    • The Customers/Vendors tab can change the default customer.
    • The Advanced tab can change the default accounts used for the payout line item categories.
  5. Select Save.
