QuickBooks Live Tax in QuickBooks Online

Learn how to file your 2023 business taxes in QuickBooks Online.

With QuickBooks Live Tax, powered by TurboTax, you can get all the expert help you need filing taxes, whether you want to file yourself with help (sole proprietors, S-corps, and partnerships) or let us take it off your plate (S-corps and partnerships only).

Depending on your business type, here are a few things you might need:

  • Driver’s license or state-issued ID
  • Business banking and credit card year-end statements
  • Loan statements
  • 2023 tax return with depreciation schedule
  • 2023 profit and loss statement and balance sheet
  • Schedule of guaranteed payments
  • Unreimbursed partnership expenses
  • State filing or registration
  • Partnership and operating agreement

Get started with Live Tax

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to Taxes, then Year-end filing (Take me there).
  3. If you don’t have your business type saved in your QuickBooks settings, we’ll ask for that next. Select Continue. Select your business entity and then Save.
  4. Select Start for free. Note: You’ll need to pay when you e-file. See pricing details.

If you're an S-corp or partnership, you can opt to let us file for you with Live Full-Service Tax:

  1. To provide the best tax experience, we’ll ask a few more questions. Follow the on-screen steps to provide the info we’ll need.
  2. After we gather some info to get started, you can meet with an onboarding specialist. You can Schedule appointment or Have us call you. You’ll receive an email confirmation shortly after.
  3. During your onboarding call, you’ll be asked to upload documents securely through QuickBooks so an expert can prepare your books.
  4. When your books are ready, you’ll get an email notification to sign back in to QuickBooks.
  5. Once you've approved your books, select Start taxes. We’ll match you with a tax expert and e-file through QuickBooks for a fee. 
  6. If you want to check the status of your taxes, go to Taxes, then Year-end filing.

If you're a sole proprietor, or you'd rather file yourself, you can opt for Live Assisted Tax:

  1. Select Start for free.
  2. Follow the steps on the next screen to get ready for taxes.
  3. When you’ve completed the items on the list, select Start taxes. Some info will be brought from QuickBooks into your tax return. You can only do this one time, but you can update your info in QuickBooks and TurboTax separately at any time.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen to complete your tax filing. You can select Back to QuickBooks to return to QuickBooks at any time.
