Update your EFTPS password in QuickBooks Self-Employed

Learn how to update the password for the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System website in QuickBooks Self-Employed. You should also follow these steps if you see Error 1003/2190 or a "payment not submitted" message.

The IRS recently changed their password requirements for the EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System) website. Learn more about the password requirements.

If you pay your estimated taxes directly to the EFTPS through QuickBooks Self-Employed, you also need to update the password in QuickBooks.

Update your EFTPS password

First, follow these steps to update your EFTPS password on the EFTPS website. Wait about an hour for everything to process. Then sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed:

  1. In QuickBooks Self-Employed, go to the Taxes menu. Then select the Quarterly tab.
  2. Select Pay Now.
  3. Select the option to pay Online.
  4. Enter your current and updated EFTPS password. This updates the connection.
  5. Select Continue and follow the onscreen steps.

What to do if you get an error

If you see Error 1003/2190 or a "payment not submitted" message, don't worry. Simply update your password on the EFTPS website again. Then follow the steps to update the password in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
