During the customer portion of the financial exchange, you see the error:
An internal QuickBooks error occurred while trying to access the QuickBooks company data file
For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.
Solution 1: Verify QuickBooks Desktop file's data integrity
- From the QuickBooks Desktop File menu, select Utilities and click Verify Data.
- When prompted, perform a rebuild of the file. Take note if you encounter any errors after rebuilding the file.
- Try doing a financial exchange again. If the issue still occurs, proceed to solution 2.
Solution 2: Remove Point of Sale from the Integrated Applications list
- In QuickBooks Desktop:
- From the Edit menu, click Preferences.
- On the left pane, choose Integrated Applications then go to the Company Preferences tab.
- Select Point of Sale from the list and click Remove > OK.
- In QuickBooks Point of Sale:
- From the File menu, select Preferences then click Company.
- In the Company Preferences window, click Financial.
- You should see a box that displays establishing QB connection.
- When the box disappears, the connection has been successfully established. If there are issues, follow the onscreen instructions on the connection wizard.
- Perform a financial exchange and check for errors. If the issue persists, try solution 3.
Solution 3: Toggle summarized/detailed exchange preference
- In QuickBooks Point of Sale Desktop:
- From the File menu, select Preferences then click Company.
- In the Company Preferences window, click Financial.
- If send receipts and vouchers with is set to Detailed item descriptions, change it to Summarized item totals. If it is set to Summarized, change it to Detailed. Click Save.
- Go back to the preference and change it back to the original setting then click Save.
- Perform a financial exchange and check for errors.
