Hello, @accountant-happy.

Let me share some information regarding the issue that you’re having right now.

This error The system cannot find the path specified happens when you try to open the company data file of QuickBooks in your Windows system.

It occurs when users are trying to import or open a file for which the specified file path is incorrect. Aside from that, there are other reasons why you’re receiving this error:

  • The installation of QuickBooks was damaged or corrupted.
  • The company file you are opening is damaged.
  • QuickBooks folders or the file from where you are trying to open the company file is missing or deleted mistakenly.
  • The configuration of the firewall to set the QuickBooks desktop in the settings for exchanging the data using the Intuit server is not done.

To fix this, you’ll have to run QuickBooks Desktop as an administrator.

Here’s how:

  1. On your computer, click the Windows Start menu in the bottom right corner.
  2. Type QuickBooks in the search box and right-click on the QuickBooks version and year you wish to open.
  3. Select Run as administrator. Then, Run the payroll update.
  4. Once complete, close QuickBooks and open it as normal (not running as admin).
