Hi, I had this error when trying to submit a VAT return via MTD. Now I can't even access any of the Taxes>VAT functions and get an application error message.
Thanks for contacting us on Community.
Can I please get you to try clearing the cache and cookies of the browser you are using to see if you are then able to access the taxes section. I have included steps to do so here, if this still doesn't work please try using another web browser or in private browsing window.
If you are able to access the taxes section following this what does the status show on the current/open period?
Thanks,
Hello! Is this issue still being resolved? I am trying to change the EIN and still getting the error.
Hi there, AV82.
I've checked and verified that our product team is currently investigating this experience you're having when trying to change the EIN.
If you have a payroll subscription then you're one of the affected users. However, if you don't have a payroll subscription, we can try a few basic troubleshooting for this.
There might be too much files in your cache storage which caused this unusual behavior. You can use a private browser when you create a check. Private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.
Here's how:
If it works fine, you can go back to your regular browser and clear the cache. It allows your browser to function more efficiently. You can also use a compatible browser with QBO.

Trying to change the closing date and password. Error 70000. On phone for hours with tech support. They can't fix it.
I can imagine the amount of time you've spent on this, PatKellyWTLC.
I presume you've gone through the steps shared by SarahannC above before calling our Support. Are you still on the phone with them? Have you tried checking for tax due payments or updating your company information with them? This is to check if you also get the same behavior while doing other things in the Accounts and Setting section.
Our support will gather more data using a screen-sharing tool to investigate this further. Please call them back for the said purpose.
You can always go back to this thread if you have other questions in mind.
I am getting this error when trying to make Legal name of the company same as Company name. I have refreshed screen, cleared cache and browsing history, logged out and back in and still have the error. I need it resolved to print W-2's. The client's name is on the W2 instead of the Company Name.
Thank you for performing basic troubleshooting steps, Lacy27.
We'll encounter this if we're trying to update company information without payroll access. You'll want to reach out to your Company admin or Master admin so they can check it for you. Here's an article for your guide: Add, delete, or change user access. Let's also make sure that the EIN is correct.
In addition, if you're using electronic services, you'll want to temporarily turn it off before updating the company name. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings. Click on E-file and Epay, then select Manually with paper coupons. Hit Yes to confirm. You can follow the steps in this article to reactivate your E-File & Pay.
The same as what my colleagues suggested, I also recommend contacting our Customer Support Team if the same thing happens. They can investigate it for you to see what could be the reason of this error. Let's follow the steps shared by SophiaAnnL.
You can always get back to me if you have other concerns. Wishing you all the best!
