Great to have you here in the Community @beckyletterwerks.

I can assist with getting your file into the desktop version.

Note: When exporting data from QBO to desktop, there are some limitations. The Invoices, Bills, and some other lists cannot import to desktop. To learn more about export limitations, you can check this article: Export limitations - QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

To make sure you're able to proceed with converting your QBO account, let's configure Internet Explorer's security for successful export. Just follow the simple steps listed below:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. From the Command Bar, select Tools and choose Internet Options.
  3. Within Internet Options, choose the Security tab.
  4. Add *.intuit.com to trusted sites.
  • Click Trusted Sites.
  • Within the Trusted sites window, un-check Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.
  • In the Add this website to the zone field, type: *.intuit.com

      5. Close the Trusted sites window.

      6. Uncheck Enable Protected Mode.

      7. Close Internet Explorer.

Once you've closed Internet Explorer, let's run QuickBooks Desktop and Internet Explorer in Administrator Mode. Now you can successfully export your data.

  1. Use Internet Explorer to log into your QBO account.
  2. Once logged into the account and on the Dashboard, you'll copy and paste the link provided into the URL of your browser: https://c30.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt
  3. Hit the Enter button.
  4. Your web page will redirect now to the Export Data screen.

Good Morning, @beckyletterwerks

I'm here to help you export your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Unfortunately, Internet Explorer is no longer a supported browser, we suggest you use Microsoft Edge during the export data process.

I believe you're already familiar with exporting data, but just in case, you can refer back to this article:  Exporting From Online to Desktop. It includes all of the reminders of what to do before exporting your company file.

Good Evening, @beckyletterwerks

Thank you for your feedback with exporting data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

As of March 18, 2019, we are dropping support for Internet Explorer 11 and Safari 10 and below. As technology improves day by day, we want to make sure that you have the best and most secure experience with using QuickBooks Online.

Since Internet Explorer is discontinued, let's try going through the process of exporting your data to QuickBooks Desktop through Microsoft Edge. If the process is unsuccessful, I'd recommend getting in touch with our QuickBooks Online Support Team

If you have any more questions or concerns, comment back to this thread. Have a great rest of your day!

Anyone else have issues with exporting data from QB online to QB desktop?

Hi Becky,

I was having same issue as you, I tried to do the export in Edge and got a message that you HAVE to do the export in Internet Explorer.

I logged backed into my company in Internet Explorer (running IE as Admin, added the trusted sites stuff), and typed the web site that was showing up in edge:

https://c73.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportdata

And eventually got to the screen about installing the active X control (IE was blocking pop ups, so you have to disable those).

Good luck!!!

2. logged in to QB online

3. once I was on my QB online company screen, I typed the web site that showed up in the Edge browser when I tried to do the export

https://c73.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportdata

4. eventually I got to the part about installing the active X control, (Internet Explorer blocks popups, you will have to allow those)

Hello there, rosscisl15.

We can use one of our supported browsers such as Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox when exporting your data. Then, log in to your ProAdvisor (Accountant) account to select the client you'll want to export the data from.

You can also export your data through Excel. However, as mentioned above there are limitations on what will export and import from the Online version to Desktop.

I also suggest contacting our phone support team if you're still unable to export your data.

  1. From your online account, click the Help icon.
  2. Click Contact Us
  3. Enter your concern that you're unable to export your data.
  4. Click Let's talk
  5. Choose a way on how to connect with us like Chat, Get a callback, or Call

Get back to me if you need more help. Thanks!

This is not correct.  As of today, the error message when using Edge is:

Exporting data to QuickBooks desktop edition or creating a local copy

IMPORTANT: You must use Internet Explorer to move your company data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop. Please log into QuickBooks Online with Internet Explorer to continue.

Perhaps this will help everyone understand how to do the export from Internet Explorer....

EHHHH!

Wrong.

It would be great if you guys at Intuit could talk to each other and understand how your own products work before you fail at your support efforts.

Once again, Internet Explorer 11 is broken when it comes to exporting QBO files. All the settings in the world aren't going to change that.

Microsoft Edge does not work for doing exports either.

Quit telling us to use Edge when it is not supported and your website says so.
EdgeError.png

So Edge will not work. Okay.

Next thing is you give us a path to bypass the missing Gear Icon.

But that only goes so far, the "Get Started" button won't work.

So Either admit here in a semi-public forum that we are all screwed and it can't be fixed or fix it.

But quit with the BS about "Call Us".

I have to be able to export from QBO reliably.
If not you are holding our data hostage and we as users will have no choice but to file a class action lawsuit.

I am having the exact same issue and when I just tried it in Edge, it says that I can only export from IE.  I have been trying this for a few days and I haven't found any solutions.
