Been using QB for 18 years, I understand Intuit did not sell me software to use on Big Sur, but $399 to upgrade is as if I am being hit by ransomware.

Disappointing

Hello there, Muzquiz. I appreciate you for using QuickBooks.

I got your point about the cost of the upgrade. For the discounted price, we can go ahead and contact our Customer Care Team. They might share with you a way on how to get the discount offered by QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu once you open QuickBooks.
  2. Click QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1 on your keyboard.
  3. Select the Contact us button.
  4. Enter a short description of your concern in the Tell us more about your question box.

If you have other concerns, please post them here. I'm right here to help in any way that I can. Take care and stay safe.

Hey there, @Muzquiz.

For now, macOS Big Sur isn't compatible with the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This also includes 2018, 2019, and 2020 versions of QBDT. This is the reason why you're unable to open your account.

As of the moment, you'll have to use the recommended operating system to access your QuickBooks company file. Here's are the compatible OS you can in QuickBooks for Mac:

  • At least macOS 10.12 (Sierra)
  • macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)
  • macOS 10.14 (Mojave)

In case you'll need to temporarily downgrade your OS, you can reach out to the Macintosh Technical Support Team. This way, you can access your company file in QBDT.

Once macOS Big Sur becomes compatible with QBDT for Mac, you can upgrade again your operating system.

Additionally, here is the list of system requirements for QBDT MAC versions:

If there's anything else you need help with QuickBooks, feel free to reach out to us. Thanks.

I just updated my Mac last weekend and discovered this problem. When do you think QuickBooks will have an update to make the program compatible with Bug Sur?

Hello there, @DJH599.

Currently, macOS Big Sur isn't fully compatible and is supported with the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac (2021). With this, I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support team. They can provide suggestions and workaround to properly use the program using Big Sur. Then, they can guide you with a fix so you're able to add new items to your lists.

You'll first have to check out our support hours to ensure we can assist you on time. Once done, here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu once you open QuickBooks.
  2. Click QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1 on your keyboard.
  3. Select the Contact us button.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and then choose a way to connect.

In the meantime, here's an article that provides the complete list of system requirements to get the best QBDT experience: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop. It also includes system compatibility.

I'm also adding this article to further guide you in managing the growth of your business: Help Articles. It includes topics about banking, reports, and taxes to name a few.

Please know that you're always welcome to comment below if you have other concerns or follow-up inquiries about upgrading QBDT for Mac. I'm just around to help. Take care.

Between the absurd upgrade price and ridiculous incompatibility with Big Sur, I am looking for a Quickbooks alternative.  I have been using Quickbooks since version 2.0 which had to be installed with floppy disks.  A call to Intuit yielded absolutely no resolution to the problem.  Good Luck Intuit.  I'm done

With every major OS upgrade, I have had this problem with QB. It takes 2-6 months for the problem to be resolved. When QB will not resolve the conflict, they sent a message you have no choice but to upgrade QB. I have learned to never upgrade to then newest OS until I see someone post that QB is now compatible with Macs. It is laziness and greed on QB's part that they do not keep their product properly and professionally updated. It is also a way to force people onto their online version, which is more lucrative. Bottom line - it is about money, not about providing an adequate service.

I had an employee today unknowingly update to Big Sur and my initial reaction was "Oh sh*t". We use QB Mac 2019 via server with multiple licenses. As soon as the update finished, she opened Quickbooks. It took a long time to load, but it loaded and worked fine.

I have Quickbooks 2016 and had it installed on a MacBook Pro. After a hot tea spill I'm now on a new MacBook that has Big Sur trying to transfer my QB file over.

I've seen where everyone is saying Quickbooks is not yet compatible with Big Sur but even when it does become compatible will my QB 2016 work or will I be forced to upgrade?

Thanks so much! And Merry Christmas! - Matt

Hi Matt,

Merry Christmas!

Our engineers are already working on the compatibility of QuickBooks (supported versions) with the Big Sur operating system, but cannot provide a delivery timeframe at this time. Please stay tuned for updates on our Blog page.

On the other hand, I also understand that you have a business to run, so I suggest finding a Mac that has the older operating system. That way, you can restore your file and continue working on your books. I know this isn't as easy as counting 1-2-3, but that will be our option for you at the moment.

If you have other questions about compatibility, please let me know.

@mattlittlehomes

QBD 2016 is outdated. Company only supports QBD 2019 or later. QBD Mac 2020 and 2021 support BigSur and hopefully they will release the patch for QBD 2019 before the end of 2020.

Seriously.  Why do you keep suggesting how to contact support  "once you open QuickBooks" when the problem we are all having is that QUICKBOOKS DOES NOT OPEN in the new MacOS.  It's year-end and critical.  And you offer us... nothing????

I'll share a solution to help you open the QuickBooks Desktop program, David1310.

You'll get a contact support prompt when there's an urgent issue that requires further investigation. Since QuickBooks will not open, let's download the latest maintenance release by following these steps:

  1. Tap the QuickBooks drop-down to select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, choose Install Update.
  3. When prompted, select Install and Relaunch.
  4. QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens when the update is complete.

Once done, try to open your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

For more insights into this process, see the Update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release guide.

Otherwise, reach out to our Customer Care Team. They can do a screen sharing session with you to investigate why the program won't open.

You can tap this link to start a chat with a live rep: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac chat

To help manage your company file in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, you can check out the articles here for guides and tutorials.

Please keep me posted if you for any additional questions or other concerns. Take care and stay safe.

Isn't it a bit arrogant to state that "Big Sur is not yet compatible with Quickbooks Decktop for Mac"?  Is it the reverse that is true? Quickbooks is NOT yet compatible with Big Sur. It's not Apple's responsibility to publish a version of Quickbooks that is compatible with the latest OS... It is Intuit's responsibility. Period.

I am using QB 2020 for Mac and just got a revision update: V19.0.6 R6

https://http-download.intuit.com/http.intuit/Downloads/Mac/QuickBooks/019/8D4DADF6-42C2-4D64-ABC0-D2...

According to the Release notes it says:

This R6 update (19.0.5.912) includes changes in the following areas:

  • macOS 11 Big Sur compatibility

I haven't updated my MacBook to Big Sur yet to test it out - never really "trust" Intuit to do things right the first time. So has anyone else tried this Release yet with Big Sur?

It sure would be nice to be able to use my new Mac Mini M1 work computer I bought.....wish Quickbooks would treat their consumers better. No reason compatibility shouldn't be available on day one of a new platform release.

So our one computer that is currently running Big Sur and running Quickbooks 2019 (successfully somehow) just got an update notification for Big Sur. Looks like they might've finally pushed through compatibility. Just a heads up for anyone waiting.

There is no update ...as I can tell , Please be specific ... The system still crashes if you try to add Items , About to ask for my money back ! this is absurd ! More than 1.5 years to test Big Sur ... There answer , find a computer running an old OS ... Intuit is a joke ! Selling software that does not function then telling people downgrade ....

To be Specific, I purchased 2021 a month ago ... was told by the broken English staff that it was fully compatible and that the older versions were the issue .... hence the " BUY 2021" push ... well its not and Intuit is nowhere to be found to address the issues .... $399.00 for broken software ... Where are you intuit ? where is my Refund I requested a week ago ! ... better off running a pirated version
