I was happily running QB Pro for Mac 2016 in Catalina but an auto update put in Big Sur two days ago. When I try to open 2016 I get error messages so I guess it is not supported in Big Sur. Okay so I spent $400 to get QB desktop for Mac 2021. It downloaded (I did it 4 times just to make sure- yes, I deleted each time) but it will not install. All I get is the ".dmg" file. When I click I get the green box that says drag to Applications and click. I already had done that. When. I click up comes the same box time after time and no way to go further. Since it seems near impossible to talk to an actual Intuit person I am turning to you for help. Thank you.
As of the moment, any supported versions of QuickBooks Desktop is not yet able to work with the latest Big Sur OS for MAC. This is the reason why you receive an error message and unable to install it successfully.

It's good to see you here, @JVH2019,
I can share some insights about restoring a backup file. To better understand this, QuickBooks Mac Desktop is a different version with QuickBooks Online.
This means that, you can't restore a backup from a desktop file to the online version of QuickBooks. The process of transferring the data for these two programs is called conversion. For more information about this, see the following links:
Additionally, when you save a copy of the company file, QuickBooks for Mac creates a DMG file. This file contains a copy of your company file and other documents you saved in QuickBooks, like forms or PDFs.
If you're not sure where you save your backup company files, here's how you can search for it on your computer.
If you want to restore the file, we have a trial account where you can temporarily store the data and update anything. To download, click the QuickBooks Mac link from this article: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop

I'm here to share with you some insights about upgrading QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2015 to 2021.
QBDT has a 3-year life cycle. Upgrading from QBDT 2015 to QBDT 2021 is a big jump, and there might be software or feature differences. To avoid issues with your file or data, you may need to restore a backup file to a Mac 2018 or 2019. Then, create another backup copy there, then restore it to 2021.
To get help extracting your data from the 2015 file and assist you with the upgrade, tap this link to start a chat with a live rep: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac chat.
On the other hand, here's an article you can read more about backing up and restoring your QBDT file:
To get started with QBDT 2021, you can check out the topics from this link: Resources for QBDT for Mac.

Hi - Thank you so much for your input. However, in my haste being not able to even open my QB desktop, I already purchased the 2021 version (but has not downloaded it yet). I only read your response after purchasing it and now am concerned I will need to purchase a 2019 version first as one response I received say QBDT has a 3 year life cycle. I wonder if I can open my QB with the 2019 trial version and if it will let me back up my data then I will download the 2021 version and flush my data in. Would you be able to advise? Thank you.

You don't need to purchase QBD 2019. Contact Support or us to have the trial version of QBD 2019.
I was running Quickbooks for Mac 2015 on my MacBook Pro until yesterday, when I got a new computer and "everything" was ported over..... well everything except the program I use ALL THE TIME. SO I requested a copy of Quickbooks for Mac 2021 — which will arrive in the mail in 10 days. In the meantime, I'm reading I need to convert my data over to 2018 since 2015 is not longer supported. How do I do that? I don't have access to QB 2015 in more since the hard drive for my old computer was handed back to me (but not the computer itself). I do the the qb backup files in the new hard-drive. I can't see to find a trial version of 2018 anywhere on the Intuit site.
Congrats on your new computer. Allow me to help you in upgrading your file.
Also, you can upgrade your company file to work in the newer version. Simply follow these steps:
