can't open backup file

I recently upgraded my iMac computer. Prior to upgrade I backed up a copy of my company file. When I tried to open Quickbooks after the upgrade Quickbooks forced me to upgrade to the 2020 version. Once I upgraded to the 2020 version my company file backup appears "grayed out" and I cannot open it. The 2020 version of quickbooks won't allow me to open my backup that was made with my previous version. Please help

can't open backup file

Let's work together so you can restore the backup file, aboutyou,

Mac has a built-in disk utility that QuickBooks uses to create a DMG (image) file when backing up company files.

You'll want to double-click the .dmg file to mount it. Then, drag the company file from the open window to your documents folder. From QuickBooks, go to File, then Open company and navigate to the file.

If you're getting the same results, we'll need to verify the data to help detect why the button is grayed out, then run rebuild to resolve it. Here's the article that details the steps to run and verify and rebuild utilities: Resolve data damage on your company file.

If the button is still grayed out, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Technical Team. This way, they'll be able to do screen-sharing to help discover where the issue is coming from.

Here’s how:

  1. Click this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact
  2. Choose QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
  3. Select a topic and a sub-topic in step 1.
  4. Click Start a Message in step 2.

Stay in touch with me if there’s anything else you need while working in QuickBooks for Mac. I’m here to help until the issue is resolved.
