Cannot figure out how to get QB desktop that is saved on a flash drive to QB online. Reason it is on a flash drive is because computer crashed.

Let me give you some insights about converting QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We're unable to open a backup file directly from an external drive. However, you can install our trial version where you can restore the backup copy. Then, export your data to QBO from the trial version.

Once done, follow these steps:

1. Open your company file using the trial version.
2. Go to Company and select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
3. Select Start your export.
4. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.

Know that there are limitations when you convert your file. That includes the attachments, audit trail, and recurring transactions. 

Once done, I'd recommend running the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports to ensure that you transferred your data correctly. To verify your reports in both products, filter the date period to All Dates and the accounting method to Accrual. Copy your backup file to local and restore it on the trial license of QB 2020 as mentioned by LieraMarie_A. Make sure you have open a QBO account prior to migrate.
