Constant Connection/Logging In Issues

We just upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop Premier Contractor Edition 2019 (5 user) and we are still experiencing the same problems as we were with the older version 2016 we were using:

 

1. error messages upon trying to login, such as another user needs to switch to multi-user (when in fact they are in multi user mode) and i can't login

2. randomly aborting the file during the day

3. multiple instances of saying "you are already logged in as …" when there's no company file open/logged into.

4. various error codes, such as H202 

 

We have 4 workstations connecting to the server computer where the company file is located.... what is going on with the connection of this QuickBooks?

 

We also experienced this same issues with the older version. We've switched our router and created a dedicated server computer for the company file and it seems like we're worse than we were before with these changes... I spent 5.5+ hours on the phone with QB support installing the new QB software on all of the computers that use the file, it was all installed appropriately and now we have all these issues again...this was only 2 -3 weeks ago....

I can share some information about the errors you're getting when logging in to QuickBooks Desktop. Let's get you back up and running.

 

I appreciate the details you've provided. QuickBooks error H202 is an error associated with QuickBooks multi-user operational mode. It occurs when a user tries to access a QuickBooks company file placed on another computer, and her copy of QuickBooks cannot reach the server on that computer. 

 

These errors mean something is blocking the multi-user connection to your server. Let me show you how to fix the issue, see the steps below:

 

Step 1: Follow steps depending on the way you host your company files:

 

If you haven’t already, follow the steps to install QuickBooks Database Server Manager on your server for each version of QuickBooks you use. Your server is the computer that hosts your company files. This tool connects your server to your workstations and keeps your multi-user network stable. There are two ways to set up QuickBooks Database Server Manager:

 

  • The Full Program option: You have the full version of QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Database Server Manager installed on your server computer.
  • The Server Only option: You only have the QuickBooks Database Server Manager installed on your server computer.

I know you've already called in. However, if the problem persists, I suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Desktop Support again. Agents have the necessary tools, like screen-sharing to get you back up and running.

 

  1. Within your QuickBooks Desktop, click Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Click Contact us.
  3. In order to route you to the correct support expert, we need to know what type of question you have. Give a brief description of your issue and click Continue.
  4. We’ll provide you a few options. You choose which one is best for you

Hi Rose,

 

Thanks for your response. I've called into QuickBooks support several times and they've ran these tests and i still keep getting these connection issues...even after having it properly installed by QuickBooks. We have the multi-user hosting turned on as well. Any other solutions or other users experiencing the same issue?

I can provide additional steps you can follow to get you back to business.

 

You can locally save a backup of your company file to prevent future data loss when updating your current QuickBooks version. But you'll first need to switch back to single user mode.

 

You may follow the steps below to save a backup file:

  1. Click on File from the menu bar.
  2. Select Backup Company, then Create Local Backup.
  3. On the Create Backup window, select Local Backup.
  4. Click the Options button.
  5. On the Backup Options window that appears, click Browse and select the location for the backup copy, then click on OK.
  6. Look over the other options on this page and select any that you like.
  7. Click OK when you're done.
  8. In the Create Backup window, click Next.
  9. Choose whether to save your backup now, schedule future backups.

Once done, you can try the steps provided by my colleague above about fixing your log in issues.

Hello Alessandra, I already know how to backup my file. The issues I'm experiencing go beyond simple solutions provided so far. Can anyone with more experience provide insight on this intermittent network connection issue I'm experiencing?

Experiencing a constant connection and login issue is tough to deal with, mrscpa.
