Let me help figure out why you can't open the company file for this fiscal year. As long as you have the backup for this company file, you can locate this by performing a wildcard search on your computer.
On your server computer, search for all company files by typing one of the following into the search bar:
*.qbw (Working Files)
*.qbb (Back Up Files)
*.qba (Accountants Copy Files)
*.qbx (Accountants Transfer Files)
*.qby (Accountants Change Files)
Make sure to include the asterisk (*) before the extension type to ensure the search works correctly. Once the file is found, you'll need to make a note of the file's location and restore it in the software. Let me refer you to this article on how to restore the company file in QuickBooks: Restore a backup company file.
Look at that Window; the title is No Company Open. The text for the list is "A Company You Previously Opened."
This has nothing to do with Files on the computer. This is "gee, you just installed a new program, and until you start opening files, there is nothing I can list, here, yet."
Start opening files, and they will start appearing here. You use the program to open any company file that you need to work with, and the most recent floats to the top, for convenience. This Convenience list can only hold up to 20 files, though. For something working with more files than that, the company files are never All Seen here, but they exist on the computer.
You use the big button, bottom middle: Open an Existing File. Browse to the company file and the new program will then list that this is a recently opened file.
