Do I really need IE11? Why not chrome? I am having problems upgrading IE.

Hello sales,

It depends on the QuickBooks Desktop version. Here are the Desktop versions and the Internet Explorer versions they're compatible to:

  • QuickBooks Desktop 2017 - Internet Explorer 11
  • QuickBooks Desktop 2016 - Internet Explorer 11, 10, and 9.
  • QuickBooks Desktop 2015 - Internet Explorer 11, 10, and 9.
  • QuickBooks Desktop 2014 - Internet Explorer 10 (R3 and later), 9, 8, and 7.

QuickBooks Desktop is compatible to Internet Explorer. Currently, it's the only web browser QuickBooks can integrate to. QuickBooks may work using Chrome, however, you might encounter some issues. I'd suggest sending feedback. Just go to the Help menu, click Send Feedback Online, then choose Product Suggestion. Requests entered there will be considered by the software engineers for inclusion in future updates.

Feel free to reach out if you need something else. Thanks!

In Windows 10, you have to Enable IE. You never have to use it and you won't see it; QB uses it for Internal needs. For instance, if you are here on the internet forum from within your QB program, it uses IE "protocol" for the connectivity.

For W10, IE is part of Windows Features and not installed separately.

You can use anything you want for browsing. Even if You never browse the internet, QB uses IE Protocols.

Hello, arcemarisela.

QuickBooks may work with Google Chrome. Though, you might encounter issues. Internet Explorer is the only browser QuickBooks can integrate to.

You can check these articles about QuickBooks system requirements (depending on the version):

I am having the same problem with Microsoft Server 2012 R2.  I downloaded the update and I can't get it to "take" and now my 2019 version of Enterprise won't open.

Hi cementcolors,

Your Operating System (OS) is supported by your server. You'll want to further check on this article for more information: System Requirements For QuickBooks 2019 and Enterprise Solutions 19.0.

With regards to your company file not opening, it could be:

  • There is a corruption on your hard drive.
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system.
  • Repeatedly double-clicking can prevent it from opening successfully.

Please follow the given solutions when QuickBooks stops working or won't open.

Let me know how this worked. I'd be glad to help you.

I just finished upgrading to Windows 10, after now i cant connect Bank feeds - and from troubleshooting I feel it is linked to IE11. Because i cant log in to my bank from IE11 either - it gives me a black screen. After tons of research i saw to turn off Gpu Processing and that did not correct it.

My bank will not allow me to use Bank Feeds because IE is an unsupported security risk.  I realize I can manually upload transactions, but I expect QB to make the interface simple.  Has QB stopped updating the desktop versions to allow for browser choice?  Are there fixes in process for this issue?  I'm using QB Desktop Pro 2019 on a Windows 10 machine....I can't be the only one out here who finds this shortfall in your product to be annoying.  Any other options or workarounds possible?

Hello there, @lkmt.

I'm glad to help you on how to download your bank transactions in QuickBooks.

To get started, let's update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release so you have the latest features and fixes. This also helps the system recognize the transactions you've downloaded.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select the Update QuickBooks Desktop...
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Put a check-mark on the Reset Update checkbox.
  4. Hit Get Updates to start the download.

Once done, you'll need to restart your QBDT and accept the option to install the new release when prompted.

Second, let's set you're Internet Explorer as your default browser. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to the Gear icon in the upper right corner (or click Tools).
  3. Select Internet Options.
  4. Click the Programs tab.
  5. Under Default Web Browser tick the Make Default button.
  6. Click OK.

From there, let's try to  Import the transactions to QBDT so it will become available in your bank feeds.

Also, you can browse these articles it provides a step-by-step process on how to manage your banking transactions in QuickBooks:

If there's anything else I can do for you, let me know. I'd be more than happy to answer it for you. Have a great day and take care.
