Thank you for bringing this to our attention, sharon. It’...

It’s my priority that you’re able to install QuickBooks 2018 without getting an error messagesharon.

Error 1328 is a Microsoft error occurs when installing the software on your computer. To resolve, you'll need to reinstall the product using a clean install to fix the error.

You can check out this article for detailed troubleshooting steps: Error 1328 when updating, repairing, installing, or uninstalling QuickBooks.

On the other hand, error 1712 occurs when your Operating System is damaged or one of the core Microsoft components that QuickBooks uses is unstable and not functioning correctly. This can also happen after installing or uninstalling something which requires a restart.

After restarting, let's try to install your QuickBooks Desktop software again.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the download page: https://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/ProductUpdates.aspx
  2. Click on Change and select the product edition.
  3. On the Version column, choose 2017.
  4. Click on the Download button.

If these troubleshooting steps don't help, let's run QuickBooks Install DiagnosticTool to fix a wide variety of errors that you may receive when installing QuickBooks 2018.

Here's an article on how to fix common installation errors using the QuickBooks Install tool: Fix Common QuickBooks Desktop Installation Errors with the QB Install Tool.

I'm confident this will take you in the right direction today. Please let me know how it goes by leaving a comment below. I want to make sure this is taken care of.

I am having the same problem.  Why did you say to download 2017 version, not 2018?  I have another computer in my office that is running the 2018 and it is working, but I can not get it to work on mine.

Good day, @interactive,

Welcome and thanks for joining the conversation. I can add a bit more information on how to get past the 1712 error you're getting.

Let's try installing QuickBooks in Selective Startup to avoid other programs interfere the installation. This way we can start Windows with only select items running on your computer. Follow these steps below to begin:

  1. To open the Run command, press Windows+R on your keyboard.
  2. On the prompt, type msconfig then click OK.
  3. Choose Selective startup and Load system services from the General tab.
  4. On the Services tab, click the Hide all Microsoft Services tick box.
  5. Click on Disable all.
  6. Once done, unmark the Hide all Microsoft Services box.
  7. Make sure the Windows Installer checkbox is selected. If it's not, mark it.
  8. Click OK.
  9. On the System Configuration window, select Restart.

Once the computer is back up, let's run the QuickBooks Clean Install Tool. Here's how:

  1. Download the QuickBooks_Clean_Install_Tool.exe.
  2. Save the file locally.
  3. Open QuickBooks_Clean_Install_Utility.exe.
  4. Click the I Accept on the license agreement box.

  5. Select your version of QuickBooks Desktop, then select Continue.
  6. Choose OK when you see this message: "QuickBooks is now ready for a clean install, please install to the default directory."

Try installing QuickBooks again. If you're getting the same error, follow steps 3 and 4 of this article: Using clean install for Windows

That should rectify the installation issue, @interactive. Let me know the result after the troubleshooting. I'll keep an eye on this post for your response. All the best!

Re: Thank you for bringing this to our attention, sharon. It’...

After the major Windows 10 1903 update in 2019 Quickbooks 2017 (and I'm not sure what other versions) will not install unless you give the needed Quickbooks apps permission to adjust files. I found this out by accident after trying since May to get an update and reinstalling Quickbooks after upgrading to Windows 10 1903. Quickbooks was having trouble creating a folder so I tried to create it manually. I discovered that the new security protocols in 1903 would not let me create a new folder in MY Documents until I gave File Explorer special permission to create one. After giving File Explorer and Quickbooks that permission the 2017 version installed normally.
