Error 15243

We have several Error 15243 codes, which appears to be similar to this topic:

We tried reinstalling Quickbooks, and also tried the reboot.bat method. But neither has resolved the Error 15243 codes. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Re: Error 15243

Error 15243 occurs when there's an interruption while updating payroll/QuickBooks, Xsvcustomauto. We have a few steps to try so we can fix it. I'll guide you along.

First, let's revalidate the service key. Here's how:

  1. Click Employees.
  2. Go to My Payroll Service, then select Manage Service Key.
  3. In the QuickBooks Service Key window, highlight the current payroll subscription, and select Edit.
  4. Continue clicking Next through Finish.

The program will revalidate the payroll subscription.

Then, let's repair QuickBooks. This fixes program related errors. Before doing the process, let's create a backup of our company file to avoid data loss.

Here's how to repair the program:

  1. Click the Start/Windows menu.
  2. Go to Control Panel (In Windows 8/8.1: From the Start menu, open Search and type Control Panel. From the results, select Control Panel).
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. Select QuickBooks, then click Uninstall/Change.
  5. Click Continue, then Next.
  6. Select Repair, then Next.
  7. Wait for the repair to complete, then click Finish.
  8. Restart computer if prompted.

If the error still persists after trying the steps above, let's repair QuickBooks File Copy Service (FCS). Here's how:

  1. Press Windows + R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. In the Search box, type "services.msc", then click OK
  3. From the list of services, look for Intuit QuickBooks FCS, then double click it.
  4. In the Intuit QuickBooks FCS Properties window, go to the General tab.
  5. Click the Startup Type drop-down arrow, then select Manual.
  6. Click OK.

Tag me if you need more help. I'll check your post from time to time.

Re: Error 15243

Hi Kristine,

We tried the various options, but none have resolved the issue.

Several of those options appear to be related to the Payroll software. We only installed Quickbooks Pro, and have not yet installed the Payroll portion. Should we install Payroll again? Thank you.

Re: Error 15243

Hi there, xsvcustomauto.

Yes, you need to install and activate the Payroll service.

From the payroll preference setting, let's make sure to set to Full payroll. This way, you can add the service key.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the Edit menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Go to Payroll & Employees, then select Company Preferences.
  4. Under QUICKBOOKS DESKTOP PAYROLL FEATURES, select Full payroll.
  5. Click OK.

Once done, from the Employees menu, select Payroll, and select Enter Service Key
